HomeMy WebLinkAboutBylaw 1591 - Hamlet Addressing Res B877 & B1299BYLAW NO 1591 OF KNEEHILL COUNTY A 13YLAW TO PROVIDE A HAMLET ADDRESSING SYSTEM WHEREAS, the Council of Kneehill County deems it expedient and proper, under the authority and in accordance with Section 58 of the Municipal Government Act, Statues of Alberta 2000, M 26, as amended, to pass a bylaw to provide for the orderly numbering of houses on lots and tie numbering of all vacant and occupied properties and buildings within the hamlets of Huxley, SVnnyslope Swalwell, Torrington and Wimborne and rescinding former Bylaw #877 and #1299 KW THEREFORE the Council of Kneehill County in the Province of Alberta, duly a nibled, enacts as follows 1 This Bylaw may be referred to as the `Hamlet Addressing Bylaw". All registered parcels and lots of land in the Hamlets within Kneehill County, whether vacant or occupied by a structure shall be assigned an address by Kneehill County The structures and parcels/lots in the Hamlets within Kneehill County shall be numbered in accordance with Schedule "A" attached to this Bylaw Address Guidelines a) Addresses are north or south depending upon whether the residences are located north or south of Main/Centre Street (could have a different name but are considered the main street) b) Within the County, basically the avenues run north/south and streets run cast/west c) Addresses are determined by the street/avenue that the residence faces and by which side of the street/avenue the residence is located For corner lots the address is determined by the street/avenue the front or main entrances faces House numbers are comprised of 3 digits d) Residences with access on streets • The first digit of residences located on streets is determined by the number of the avenue to the east • The last digit of the address is even if the residence is on the north side of the street If the residence is on the south side of the street the last digit is odd • For both odd and even, numbering starts at the east end of the block and gets larger heading west e) Residences with access on avenues • Residences on the west side of an avenue and located north of Main/Centre Street receive an odd number (the last digit of a three digit number is odd) starting with the number 1 at the south end of the block and increasing going north • Residences on the east side of an avenue and located north of Main/Centre Street receive an even number (the last digit of a three digit number ), starting with the number 2 at the south end of the block and increasing going north f) Size of lots • Single (25' lots) numbers go up by 2 and double (50 lots) go up by 4 and triple (75' lots) go up by 6 and so on Therefore, if there is a 100 foot wide lot starting from the corner it could encompass the addresses 02 to 08 with the next lot being 10 1591 BYLAW NO 1591 OF KNEEHILL COUNTY g) Shortage of numbers • Should there be a shortage of house numbers in a block due to improper assignment, they will be identified as Unit A, Unit B etc h) Hamlet of Sunnyslope • The house numbering for both odd and even, starts at the south end of the block getting larger heading north i) Hamlet of Torrington • Torrington has an exception to the rule, as house numbers north of Centre Street are in descending order j) Signage Requirements • The proper address, assigned pursuant to this bylaw shall be affixed in a conspicuous/visible place no higher than the first story of a dwelling or at an equivalent height in the case of other structures • Each individual owning a parcel of land, to which a structure is affixed shall be responsible for the erection and maintenance of the address sign • Each address letter or number shall be a minimum of 100 mm (4 inches) in height CILLOR HOPPINS UNCILLOR HOLSWORTH :OUNCILLOR LONG 1591 moved first reading to this by-law on May 12, 2009 moved second reading to this by-law on May 26, 2009 moved third reading to this by law on May 26, 2009 Reeve Yom.
