the machinery requirements were being discussed
The 1961 auditor's 11,inanci4l Report was reviewed briefly
with partic lar reference to the surplus of ;50,805 51 and to the
1961 Capita Expenditure of ;'110,039.14 net.
The office committee reported that they recommended
purchase of new furniture from Northwest Wholesale furniture Ltd.
at a total. ost of approximately p3640.00. They had investigated
the possibi ity of saving $252 00 in Sales Tax by buying through
the Three Hills School Division, but this is only legal if the
School Divi ion certifies that the furniture is for classroom use
only Mr oosmore moved that this District agree to pay the Sales
Tax on the urniture. Carried.
JMr Schmelke moved that the office committee be xtimxx
authorized to order the new furniture as per the list submitted
Carried.
Mr. D. Hazelton of Linden " ontractors met with Council
He reported that they had finished the stockpiling at Arvidson's
and are now moving to the Sharples pit. He asked that they be paid
$2000.00 on account Mr Peters moved that Linden Contractors be
now paid $2)00.00. Carried.
Mr Schmelke moved that the amount of gravel for the
Sharples st ckpile be increased by 1000 c yds to make 8000 c yds
total.
Samples of drapes for the new office were shown to
Council.. and prices as quoted by Hudson's Bay Co of $1181 81 and
of Frederic 's Drapery of $11_00.00 were discussed. Mr. Schmelke
moved that the drapes be ordered from Frederick's Drapery at the
installed price of $1100.00 and as per samples chosen. Carried.
Mr Paul Caubin7 Vice - President- Marketing, of I P.
Krick Associates, met with council and submitted a proposed
contract for Hail Suppression for 1962 for the same area as in 1961
at a maximiun price of $40,800.00. An addendum was included in the
contract to reduce the price on a sliding scale if other contigupus
areas also nter into a contract with this company He also stated
that they are prepared to bring in Mr. Newton Stone, a highly
qualified m n, to be in charge of the projects. The possibility
of Provinci 1 Government assistance was also discussed briefly
Decision wa tabled until later in he meeting.
Machinery requirements and a provisional budget for
Capital_ Exp ndmtures in 1962 were then discussed Mr Peters
moved that the 1962 machinery budget be tentatively set at
470,000.00 net. Carried.
Inclusion of the following items for 1962 machinery
purchases w re then considered.

A report was received by phone stating that the Torrington
Wellhouse i in a very unsatisfactory and unsanitary condition Mr
T. Paquette was instructed to have it cleaned out
Mr. Schmelke moved that our culvert supr)ly be brought
up to the e ual of last Spring's stock and that the required order
be divided bout equally between Armco Drainage, Ferguson Supply
Ltd., Dominion Bridge and Itobertsteel. Carried.

Mr. Brown suggested that there is a good gravel supoly
on the farm of Ben Churchio, about 4 miles west ofBeiseker and 1 mi.
south, and that this District might save money by stockpiling from
that location. Mr. Loosmore moved that ivir Brown and Mr Boese
be authorized to arrange for the crushing and stockpiling of 2000
c yds of ravel from the (,hurchill Pit under winter works if
feasible. larried.
Council was advised that Ned Fuller has failed to pay
Dr. J. Sree way for calf vaccinations, they directed that this be
referred to the Agricultural Service Board.
T Paquette reported that Attridge and Miller would do
a complete motor overhaul job on the payloader at a cost not to
exceed $480,,00 The shop committee was authorized to arrange for
necessary repairs to the payloader.
I11r Darold Howe met briefly with Council regarding
Hail Suppression and regarding the proposed closing of the Swalwell
Station. Hr Church moved that this District be represented at
Swalwell on February 2nd at 2.00 P.M. when the District Engineer
of the Boarl of `:Transport Comrlissioners and a representative of the
C. N. R. w1 1 be present to consider matters pertaining to the

The suggested rate was:
Nominal charge for fire truck per trip - $25.00
For each fireman - $5.00 minimum to oay for up to
and 1 00 per hour thereafter

These requests were discussed at considerable length.
Mr Brown m ved that this District agree to pay for organized
fire protection at the rates as set forth by agreements with other
Municipalities and for Prairie Bible Institute and that this District
collect from -the parties responsible
Mr. Church moved that the above motion be tabled until
next meetin . Carried
A letter was read from Street - Robbins - Morrow Ltd.
in which that Company, together with Caterpillar Company invited
two members of Council as guests on a trip to Caterpillar factories
in Peoria Ad vicinity The group would leave Calgary Sunday,
February 18th at 9.30 A.M. by chartered aircraft. A draw was made
to choose the delegates for this trip. Mr. Loosmore moved that the
delegates for the trip be in accordance with the draw, namely, Mr.
Brown and M-,.-. Peters with alternates of Mr. Church, Mr. Loosmore,
Mr. Schmelk , Mr. Boese and Mr Campbell in that order Carried
Mr. Carl Bakke met with Council regarding a Propane
Heater for a Bunk car at Carbon. He agreed to submit a bid on this
within a short time.
Mr G G King, as Civil Defense director, outlined
to Council he proposed Civil Defense program and budget for the
period from April lst, 1962 to March 31st, 1963. Estimated
expenditures were.
1. Personal services - $240.00
2. Travel - 2.25 00
3. Material & Supplies 170.00
4. Rent & Utilities 470.00
5. Furniture &
Equipment 213.00
6. Communications 80.00
7. Training aids 30.00
8. Exercises & Misc 165.00
Total 1593.00
It was estimated that the net cost to this District
would be approximately 1/8 of that total. Difficulties of obtaining
a two -way r dio communication set -up on short notice were discussed.
Mr. Church moved that the Civil Defense budget as outlined be
accepted and that the communications set -up be tabled

issuance of a license to Don Peebles to sell Allis Chalmers equip-
