Mac deBeaudrap, ESMC Date- July 9th, 2003 Issue First Fire Management Committee Meeting Council Agenda Item #7(d) Background At the June 24`h County Council meeting Council gave approval for the creation of the Fire Management Committee (FMC), to be made up of the Emergency Management Services Coordinator and the Fire Chief and Deputy from Torrington The Chiefs and Deputy s from the Towns of Trochu and Three Hills and the Villages of Carbon Acme and Linden would also be invited to participate on the Committee Discussion On July 3`d, 2003, the Fire Management Committee met for the first time at a supper meeting held in Three Hills I am pleased to report that there were Chiefs and /or Deputy Chiefs represented from all Departments in the County and that the participants seemed positive about the direction received in the Pommen report The local newspaper was in attendance to photograph the group and make note of the importance of this occasion The CAO outlined the roles and responsibilities of the County the Fire Chiefs/DC's, and the EMSC and then spoke to the Terms of Reference for the FMC Each Chief was given an opportunity to speak about concerns and current activities of their individual departments It was evident that training tailored to the needs of the Departments was a high priority on everyone's list We also explored the possibility of conducting a "live fire training event" and I will be looking into the feasibility of this in the following week Another meeting of the FMC is tentatively set for the end of July, where we will begin the process of establishing and implementing training, Standard Operating Guidelines and discussing concerns and opportunities for the future Arrangements have been made for a delegation of the EMSC and the CAO to visit the various Councils within the County introduce the EMSC and update them on the FMC activities Recommendation 1) Tha ouncil e this report as information ac de a drap Page 71 LA
