KNEEHILL COUNTY
ROAD COMMITTEE REPORT JUNE 19, 1998
The Road Committee met on Friday June 19 1998 at 8 40 A.M The following were present

The following items were reviewed

Road Committee recommends approval for a second approach, onto the Gorr Road,
and the Public Works Superintendent to speak with landowner re location. yG1rYloHO 1"A" as
Mr Rick Vickery met the Road Committee at the Wimborne Cemetery
2 Wimborne Cemetery Expans!on
Mr Leonard Litz has advised of a verbal agreement he had made with Mr Alex
Cunningham whereby he would undertake all the preparation work for the cemetery
expansion (removal of trees and roots hauling of dirt to fill slough area, preparing site and
grassing of same) in lieu of receiving gravel for the Wimborne Hall campground It was
noted the County currently mows the grass at the cemetery
Road Committee recommends the County continue to mow the grass at this cemetery,
Mr Vickery speak with Mr Litz to find out where he requires the gravel, evergreen
trees be planted in the new part of the cemetery.
SH 805 through Wimborne (for information only)
The Road Committee discussed the possibility of realigning SH 806 through Wimborne to
the west side of the fertilizer plantP.z of
Mr Vickery left the Road Committee meeting
4 Roxanne Murray SW 35 33 26 W4 - Wimborne
Request for a culvert/approach into residence It was noted any ditch work would require
a lay around (Telus)
Road Committee recommends the Public Works Superintendent resolve this problem at
the least minimal cost to the County.
5 Miles Smith - Approach Request NW 29 33 25 -W4
Grad & Walker have an oil well on this land and want to access same from another quarter
owned by Mr Smith Mr Smith prefers the approach to be located on the same quarter,
south of the existing the tree line It was noted the road north of the tree line access a
residence and is not a through road Mr Henry Wiens had not approved the approach at
this location because the sight distance requirements could not be met

Road Committee recommends the sight distance for the approach on the NW 29-23-25 -
W4 be relaxer) and further, Mr Henry Wiens be advised of same.
6 Bigelow Dam Recreation Area
The Road Committee toured this recreation area, reportedly owned by AB Environment
and Ducks Unlimited The possibilities of developing the area for use by the local
residents and others was discussed including planting trees cutting grass, having camping
facilities on site, the possibility of having a pier walk out to view the wildlife, stocking the
dam with fish

Road Committee recommends ownership of the recreation area be determined and the
owner(.) contacted regarding development of the recreation area.
7 Painter Backsloying Request NW 15 -34 22 W4
Mr Sean Painter has placed a new fence along his property and is requesting backslopmg
and tree removal along the ditch

Road Committee recommends the County backslope if Mr Painter rennoves the brush
piles, clears the stumps, rocks, posts and other debris in the ditch area prior to this
work being undertaken
8 Buffalo Jump Provincial Park (for information only)
The Road Committee toured the park, discussing possibilities for its development
9 Harry Strohschein - First Time Gravel Request NW 26 33 23 W4
This request is for second residence access
Road Committee recommends approval of this first time gravel request for second
residence access
10 Ken Knievel Fence Backslope Request 28 33 23 W3
Road Committee recommends the Public Works Superintendent and local Councillor
determine whether any backsloping is required
The Road Committee recessed for lunch 11 40 A.M 12 30 P M
11 Landpro Approach Request 13 32 -30 22 W4
The company has requested permission to build an approach to access a well site for their
client, Gulf Canada Resources It was noted there is an existing approach into this
location

Road Committee recommends the existing approach be used to access this well site and
.further, this approach be maintained by the oil company to existing conditions.
12 Hesketh Hill /Berdahl SW 12 29 -22 W4
Mr Dennis Berdahl has fenced his property abutting the Hesketh Hill road, including the
installation of two posts outside his fence area, one each on both the north side and south
side of the hamlet A concern has been received from Mr Marty Metzger who claims he
is unable to get his equipment down the hill and feels Mr Berdahl has fence off the road
The road committee noted the post, on the south side of Hesketh, appears to be within
Mr Berdahl s property according to the pin on the NE corner of the quarter section The
Committee also measured across the south road, from fence to fence noting it was within
a few feet of the required width It was noted these observations were not accurate and
would need a legal survey to determine exact measurements
Road Committee recommends a letter be sent to Mr Metzger explaining it is up to the '5�P 3 0�
landowner to keep his fence off the road allowance, Mr Berdahl has not requested
permission to fence any portion of the road allowance, upon inspection of this
location, the Road Committee does not feel it is necessary to have a legal survey made,
the costs for any surrey will be at landowner expense.
13 SH 841 Road Project South of Highway 9 to M D boundary (for information only)
The Road Committee toured a portion of the SH 841 paving project, noting they would
like this road surface on the road to the Buffalo Jump Park

14 Plnva NW 15 -34 -22 W4 (Township Road 28 -4 Range Road 20 -8)
A complaint has been received about oil company vehicles coming onto this east west road
with mud It was noted this property abuts the County boundary It is accepted that on
boundary lines the municipality looks after the roads south of and west of with the town of
Drumheller looking after the other roads
Roar) Committee reconiniends a letter be sent to Mr Pliva explaining the boundary
lines and road maintenance of same with a copy of this letter to be sent to the town of
Drumheller
15 Sherring Drainage Request SW 14 29 2233 W4
A request has been received for the grader to divert water on the east side of this land
which abuts SH 836

Road Contnuttee recommends Mr Mierring be permitter) to rent the grader, as per 6"r"

The Road Committee then returned to the County office and adjourned time 3 10 P M
