FIRE COMMITTEE MEETING FEBRUARY 16th, 1993
The annual joint fire meeting was held on Tuesday, February
16th, 1993, commencing at 7.00 P.M.
The following were present for the meeting
Carbon Fire Department
Ian Appleyard, Gordon Snell
Trochu Fire Department-
Roy Enz.ie, Lawrence Hogg, Ken Wohl, Kevin Hoppins
Acme Fire Department*
Darrel Morris
Three Hills Fire Department:
Keith Martin
Torrington Fire Department.
Garnet Bauer
Linden Fire Department:
Lorne Toews, Earl Reimer
Drumheller Fire Department:
Jack Samuels, Don Guindolin
M D Kneehill 148
R E Boake, Jim Hanger and J. C. Jeffery
FIREMEN'S ACCIDENT INSURANCE:
All those present agreed they would like to see the
Firemen's Accident Insurance standarized across the
province to provide
$100,000 Principal Sum Coverage,
$325 00 Weekly Indemnity,
$1500 00 Accident Reimbursement Benefit
$1500 00 Rehabilitiation Benefit
$1000.00 Dental Expense Benefit
The cost for such coverage would be.
Fire Departments: $219.00 for each base unit and $20 00
per each additional unit
Ambulance. $144 00 for each base unit and $15.00 per each
additional unit
The M D of Kneehill currently insures 14 fire units which
covers all fire and water trucks in the area and 5
ambulance units, 2 in Three Hills, 2 in Linden
plus a rescue unit Insurance on this basis was less
costly so the M D had maintained coverage as per agreements
I am advised some or all of the towns and villages carry
insurance coverage as well
I have been in touch with AUMA, AAMD & C and Seaboard
Insurance. See attached letter Have been advised
effective November of 1993 all towns and villages must
/C- 11A-7--
carry insurance coverage (not the M D ) They feel even
though the insurance is based on the number of units, it is
actually insuring the volunteers and therefore the urban
center who control the department should be responsible for
the coverage
Therefore the urban centers will have to cover the
following units-

The M.D. of Kneehill has never insured the Three Hills
Rescue Unit
If the M D and the five towns and villages agree the
coverage for the volunteers would be increased to Option C
to provide coverage as noted above
RESCUE UNIT:
There was discussion about rescue units and it appears
there are rescue units in Three Hills, Linden, Drumheller,
Olds and Didsbury, General feeling is we have enough
rescue units in this area
INVENTORY
All departments agreed they would send in an inventory list
of equipment and machinery The M D would prepare a
consolidated list and send same out to each department
All departments would then know what equipment would be
available for a major disaster or mutual aid
MUTUAL AID AND FIRE AGREEMENTS
It was agreed all agreements should be reviewed Each area
should be aware of contents of the agreements so there
would be no surprises if and when mutual aid is requrested

Councillor Boake presented several long service
certificates to members of the Trochu Fire Department The
other departments were advised long service certificates
are available to any fireman However the department must
keep the necessary records and advise the M D when one of
their members is entitled to receive a certificate or five
year seal for attachment to the certificate
Certificate is normally given when a member has 15 years of
service and seals are presented every 5 years thereafter
The meeting adjourned at 8.10 P M
