HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-09-10 Council MinutesPARKS AND CEMETERY MEETING September 10, 1984 Present Were Chairman - Reginald Campbell, Counsilor -Otto Hoff, Councilor- Richard Maerz, Ag Fieldman- Norman Soder Secretary- Herman Martens and Park Attendant - Nick Mamona Called to Order By Chairman Reg Campbell at 9 10 a m at the M D office Minutes Minutes of the May 29th meeting were read and adopted on a motion of Richard Maerz Carried Business Arrising From Minutes A The sewer dump station for Keivers was turned down by council because of the cost of pumping as well as similar facilities can be found in many surrounding towns such as Torrington, Swalwell, and Three Hills B The roof of the office at Keivers has been repaired as well as two windows have been installed to ventilate the building The office also was painted C The extension line for the phone was not installed but A G T is apparently considering the installation of a pay phone at the park for a seasonal trial bases next summer D The Park Maintenance Assistance Grant has been received in the amount of $2 000 00 E The tree stumps and root clumps from Swalwell cemetery have been leveled to accomodate grass seeding, either this fall or in the spring New Business i A Keivers Park signs should be installed on highway #27 both east and west at Torrington B Travel Alberta Park inspection reports were read by Norman Soder Keivers is the only one of our three parks that meets their minimum standards and will be shown in their 1985 travel guide book Reports will be filed C Tables left out for winter use was discussed It was decided that none be left at Tolman and only one at Swalwell and one at Keivers D Councilor Hoff had some requests this year for water down streams from Swalwell Dam, but due to the low water level it was decided that we retain as much water as is now in the Dam Over flows and siphons were discussed for future years and possibly the P F R A could be asked to repair the existing gate so that it could be opened P F R A has been contacted in the past and John Jeffery may have costs of repairs E The beach at Keivers has been disced on it This problem of cows walking fence and into the park will be over neighbouring farmer builds his fence other side This is now possible wi water level in the Lake to get rid of cow manure around the end of the come when the across the lake to the th the extremely low F The fee schedule for the park was discussed and on the recommendation of Nich Mamona, our Park Attendant, we propose to leave the rates the same for 1985 as they now stand Moved by Richard Maerz Carried Page 2 Keivers Lake Operation Report A Nick suggested that the wood for the park be cut into 12'' - 18'' lenqths for easier splitting B More fire pits will be required for next year Norman Soder is to check with shop to see if they have time to have the boys cut up more used culverts, possibly outside to get away from fumes C Tables were discussed and we estimated that the M D had about 75 tables Moved by Richard Maerz that we retain about this number of tables repairing and replacing as they are required Carried Fifty -five tables were out at Keivers, eight at Tolman and ten at Swalwell, as well as some at the shop that were to be repaired D Playground equipment was suggested and the concensus of opinion was that used tires from either the shop or local tire dealers should be collected and taken out to Keivers and partially buried for kids to play on This could be a project for some service club E Miniture golf was suggested as an activity for the park as well as a go -cart track The go -cart track has been discouraged because of the noise and smell F Some toilets at the park will have to be moved and new holes dug All new locations should have culverts set in the holes so they can be pumped out, this would cut down on the amount of moves required G Dead trees have been marked as to which ones should be removed by the A S B crew H Park Attendant 1985, Mr Nick Mamona expressed interest in returning next year He will notify us by March 30 if he is unable to come Our season will start May 13, 1985 I The Parks and Cemetery Board expressed their sincere thanks to Nick Mamona for another good season J Nick Mamona will end this season September 17, 1984 Parks Financial Statement . A copy of the interm statement is attached and filed Fish & Wildlife Grant 0 Monies may be available to the M D of Kneehill #48 to construct garbage containers and sanitary facilities (toilets) at our Swalwell Dam Moved by Otto Hoff that if fund is available or if the department wishes to install garbage containers the preferred place would be 50 feet south of the kitchen at the Swalwell Dam Also if washroom facilities become available the location for those would be approximately 100 feet north of the same kitchen by the trees north of the wood stock pile Carried C� • is Page 3 Cemeteries A Wooden crosses at some cemeteries have rotted away and Tony Greke has made new metal replacements at his own expense The board noted it was the families responsibility to maintain grave markers B Mt Davis Cemetery requires some tree trimming to prevent snow problems this winter C Trochu Lutherns gate sign is falling down and may damage some headstones People involved have been notified and it is no, longer our concern Motion to adjourn by Richard Maerz at 11 45 a m RIP (:l R T FOR K F :C'~!
