Mr Andrews noted that the Village population is only 426 and after
discussion it was agreed the rural population in the Linden -Acme Fire Area
would be over 1000 Village councillors indicated they were presently paying
about one -third of the costs and felt this was adequate They also
indicated they could not afford to pay anymore
It was noted that for the past 10 years the Village has basically received
nearly free fire protection because the M D truck has been based in Linden
and it might be necessary to levy a special mill rate in order to raise
additional funds for fire protection for the village
There was discussion about the truck costs incurred this year and Mr Duer
Linden Fire Chief advised the village council of the problems with the pump on the
truck and other problems The truck is a 1969 model and will have to be
inspected by the Fire Commissioner's office in 1984 to ensure it is still
reliable enough to use as a fire truck
Mr Campbell noted costs for a new truck and some equipment would be about
$90,000 00 The M D and the Village may be looking at the purchase of a new
truck in the near future The financing for fire trucks and for fire costs by the M D
was reviewed for the Village councillors
It was noted that the M D feel the Village should be paying a greater share of
costs for fire protection , and the Village councillors noted they did not feel
they could or should be paying more
However they agreed to discuss the matter again and advise the M D of their
decision in due course
The M D representatives and Mr Duer then left the meeting - 9 00 P M
Mrs Jean Wilkinson, Recording Secretary
