HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-11-29 Council Minutes0 0 CARBON FIRE MEETING NOVEMBER 29th, 1982 A meeting was held in the Carbon Village Office on Monday, November 29th 1982 with the following people present Don Appleyard, George Appleyard, Bill Horn, Ted Schmidt and Wendy Sowerby G A Berdahl, Robert E Boake, Otto Hoff, R G Campbell and J C Jeffery Various items were discussed including - 1 STill having radio problems 2 Carbon would be willing to retrofit a water truck if we supplied one 3 Mentioned charging for highway fires 4 Left copies of Trochu and Three Hills agreements with them and they will get back to us prior to December l4th, 1982 MINUTES OF THE RUARKVILLE TAXPAYERS MEETING held on November 29th, 1982 at the home of Paul Meier at an 7 35 P M Mr. Art Chamberlain agreed to chair The meeting began points and order of the evenings the meeting and invited suggestions as to the p rdda be adopted in agenda Mr Ken Penner suggested that the order of the age as on the notice sheet handed out to Ruarkville residents Mr seconded it Mr Penner made this a motion, Mr and all were in favor Mr. Ken Penner suggested that a quick recap of the last meeting the group had and the subsequent events that occurred night put the present meeting in perspective Mr. Penner then made his reArttChamberlain and Richard around the trip that Mr. Penner, Mr. P. What would the possibility be of incorporating a split mill rate as outlined in Section 96 5 of the Municipal Taxation Act? He said that at last ` Mr Richard Maerz is welcomed to the ortiongwould be about $92000.00 look it appeared that Ruarkvilles water cost p as company Final costs have not been calculated yetthe He also system andtthatathis t would be of was interested in purchasing water benefit to all water payers. Mr Maerz then said that the M.D. had decide that the cost of the water system would be payed for through a "user -pay it system Some questions asked of Mr Maerz involved the apparent difference in taxes paid in the Town of Three Hills conprared to those in Ruarkville of houses Chamberlain displayed an overhead sheet with information showing residents and their respective taxes. It was generally agrees ttaty parts,., the ,paid an average of $175.00 to $250 00 morel than their cto adequately judge Town Mr Maerz said the information was that supposition Mr Chamberlain asked if it was possible to obtain an audited statement regarding the revenue exacted from Riarthatlinformation x t e couldbegainedufromille in the past few years Mr. Maerz sa the audited books at the M.D office Mr Maerz was then asked about the possibility of a split will rate as outlined in Section 96 5 of the Municipal Taxation Act Mr Maerz said he would look into it A question regarding what had happened to the $500 per capita grant was posed to Mr Maerz He said it hadast and thatl the cfunds thad pall it to suppress rising property taxes in the p rant money been spent. There was also discussion on the availability f Discussion and Mr Maerz said that it was unable to secure another grant. then centered on who was responsible for this oversight, the M.D Council or the Provincial Government Mr Ken Penner, in trying to put a perspective on the evening meeting said that ha felt that Ruarkville and lower than average residents with higher than average taxes being handled by a large rural government structure e urban community cil members were more experienced with .M suggested that perhaps the M.D. coun rural needs. Mr. Ken Penner, moved that Mr Maerz get support from the M D Council to improve the roads in Ruarkville with better resurfaciinngg at no additional cost to the residents of Ruarkville Mr. Maerz discussed the possibility of various types of resurfacing J - 2 - Mr Jerry Unger moved that at least 50% of Ruarkvilles tax revenue be spent back in Ruarkville for the coming tax year.
