HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-09-16 Council MinutesAGENDA PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING Tuesday, September 16,1980 1 Call to order 2 00 P M 2 Reading and approval of the June 24th 1980 minutes 3 Business arising out of the minutes 4 Report from the Park Attendant 5 New Business 1 Review of the 1980 rates 2 Changes in policies (if any) 3 Improvements to the park 4 Recommended duties for Park Attendant 1981 5 Other W//) PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING September 16, 1980 A meeting of the Parks Committee of the Municipal District of Kneehill 448 was held in the M D office at 2 15 P M September 16,1980 Present were Art Bauer, Chairman Cliff Pool Reg Campbell Gilbert Berdahl Norman Soder Art Thomas Herman Martens, Secretary Nick Manona Part Attendant Minutes. The minutes of the June 24,1980 meeting were read and approved on a motion by Cliff Poole Carried Business Arising From the Minutes 1 "Registered Guest Only" after 10.00P.M was discussed by council and they decided to leave the time at 11 OOP M , so the motion reads "Registered Guests Only" after 11 OOPM 2 Norman Soder reported he has not started to create parking stalls but will try to get them cleared and numbered this winter 3 Norman Soder has not checked into settingup a trailer dump station, running water, concrete base and possible well contamination would have to be considered 4 The wooden garbage can lids are working out well and Nick Mamona said he could use a few more for next year 5 The M D sign man has installed the approved park signs on Highway #27 as requested 6 The posts and chains to control entrance to and exit from the park have worked out well. 7 The change booths have been moved out of the brush and the baricades to keep cars back will be put in this winter 8 Mr Mamona thanked the committee for providing him with the Yazoo mower, it sure helped make the park look neater 9 Park fire wood has been hauled in to last for the rest of the season 10 Norman Soder has requested Council to keep his men on staff for an additional two weeks to cut wood for the parks for next season 11 Mr Mamona suggested that the Boy Scouts or 4H Groups be approached to set up a wood consession at Keivers Lake The cost of wood would prevent probable wastage plus make money for the group in charge 12 The light over the front gate is still on continually and the Power has not been turned off Park Attendant's Report 1 Nick Mamona thanked the parks committee for their support and help 2 Some campers requested construction of a playground away from the Beach - swings, slides, and teter- totters were suggested Herman Martens is to check into insurance and liability coverage that would be required 3 Mr Mamona suggested a two wheel trailer could be purchased for the park so the attendant could haul his own garbage and possible wood 4 All the signs in the park should be updated to clearly show the rates charged 5 Day pass cars have caused some congestion on the beach, a Day pass parking area away from the beach up near the gate may be one solution or camping stalls along the beach may be another 6 Mr Mamona suggested rates for seasons pass remain as they are Moved by Cliff Poole, that all rates for 1981 be tabled Carried 7 The water level in the lake may require power boat restriction for 1981 season 8 Nick Mamona suggested that new pits for washrooms be dug and the use of lime be encouraged next year to prolong the life of each pit 9 Keivers Lake had adaquate tables this year with very little vandel damage 10 Nick Mamona would like to see the Parks Committee meet at the Park early in spring some Friday or Saturday evening Financial Report The report as attached was discussed Note gate receipts are down from last year due to bad weather during weekends and Alta 75 Celebrations throughout the rest of the province Reg Campbell moved acceptance of report Carried Note of Thanks Norman Soder and the Parks committee expressed their appreciation to Mr Nick Mamona for the fine job he did at Keivers Lake and for his special effort to come to this meeting 1981 Park Attendant Moved by Art Bauer that Mr Mamona be offered the position of park attendant for 1981 Carried Mr Mamona accepted pending unforseen difficulties saying he would confirm his acceptance by mail before March 31,1981 Mr Mamona requested permission to locate his trailer at the park before he starts work Permission was granted by unanimous consent The 1981 season will be from May 15,1981 to Sept 15 1981.
