King, Secrettqy ..4 Fn 0 to r FORM T1 149 P SPECIAL AGRICULTURAL FIELDMAN'S REPORT JOINT AGRICULTURAL SERVICE BOARD AND MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF KNEEHILL COUNCIL MONDAY, JULY 22, 1974 P 1 This has bee a rather exasperating year, to date I expect that it is cause from the late start that we had this spring. We were not able to pick up the trees from Oliver wntil May 9 and the trees from Indian Head did not arrive until May 24 While we did have some wet weather which held us up, we could not start planting until the Indian Head trees arrived. We had so many cancellations from Oliver that we attempted to fill the orders by ordering trees from Indian Head Consequently some farmers had trees both from Oliver and Indian Head and had we started planting before we r ceived the Indian Head trees, we would have had some back tracki g to do The tree pl nting went quite smoothly with just two of the boys going with he outfit and the farmer concerned driving the tractor The boys di a good job of cleaning up this job. We did very little cattle spraying this last spring for warbles and lice We did have Alf Lourance doing warble inspections again this year at the Acme and Trochu auction marts. He found a consider- able number of cattle infested with warbles We also received reports fro other auction marts of cattle from this area being infested with warbles We even had a letter from Edmonton inform- ing us that maybe our program isn't as good as it may be. We have had a considerable number of calls to spray shelterbelts. We were a 1ng ways behind it this program but the boys have finally caught up n w We were able to get a good suoply of poles from Tom Ferguson for firewood at the parks We still have to pick up the poles that the boys cu last fall. There should be no concern as to a supply of firewood for next year bul, I feel that it is good to keep a fair supply on hand. Watson Reed did not start this year until the last week in June. He has started mowing roadsides and will probably spend the balance or his time at this. Watson is a good man and I ari sorry to report that he will be leaving us at the end of July He will be going ;o the n & H feed mill here in Three Hills. As was the ase last year, we have had a number of farmers bring weed specimns in for identification I feel that this is good and I am please to see the concern of the farmers in this. We are always happ to get this information to the farmer In most cases the w ed is nothing serious but in other cases the weed could becom a problem You are all aware of the tour that we made of the parks We have had very little opportunity to take care of any of the recommendations We are still having the sarr.e general problems The fight that resulted in one boy going to the hospital on July g was very bad The boy inv lved was released from the hospital and would not lay charges H s statement was that next time, he would get the other guy We had 17 applications on the T'etfoot Program These were all forwarded to Edmonton We have had no reply to date. e M FO M 494,Sf CIAL We had a req slough We or license i offer some t appointment involved. We should have 1 with the exception posslbley of needing more Tordon. elays in getting the roadside sprayer completed and e ran into some problems which were beyond our control ome problems with hydraulic controls and had to take Calgary for corrections. On the way to Calgary we tions and gri.nd-ngs and the truck was left at Shaws for n this. This, to date, has consumed the greater part y the date of this meeting, the truck should be back The total cost has not yet been determined It was mentioned in the last meeting that the spring tooth harrows requested for the grass -seeding outfit should be brought up at the next joint neeting It appeared that we would have been grass -seeding by now so I more or less took it on my own and bought them. We have tried hem out and they work good We are planring with the co-operation of the Department of Agriculture Edmonton, a fairly extensive Canada Thistle demonstration in the Carbon -Drum eller area While this is still in the planning stage, I would likE to discuss this further with the meeting. I appreciat any great e we get all I felt that good I wol on it As i I feel that the 1974 toi the radio in my truck and while I haven't used it to tent as yet, I know that it will be of real benefit when f the radios in the A S B Provincial Tour held at Ft McLeod was very ld like some of the other members of the Board to comment e are supposed to have the tour in Three Hills next year, we must do a lot of planning to come anywhere close to r at McLeod 3 AGRICULTURAL FIELDMANQS REPORT JOINT AGRICULTURAL SERVICE BOARD AND MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF KNEEHILL COUNCIL.
