REEVE'S REPORT
MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF KNEEHILL No 48
It is
a privilege to again report on the affairs of the
past year
of Municipal highlights within M.D. #48
1973
was a banner year for the grain producers of this M.D.
There Are
very few that dldn°t have an above average crop
Prices
iave improved greatly I am concerned with the fact
that th
Canadian Wheat Boari has paid less than one-half the
committn.,d
price of g- ain, and in the case of wheat on Feb 1st,
with th
crop year half gone; only a 10 bushel quota, with a
likely
verage in this area o -f 30 Cons?.dering the low prices
and very
restricted quotas o a few years ago, we should
certainly
question the marketing of grains under the present,
fast developing
monopy system
The
ncreasec price of grain has put extreme pressure on the
livestol,k
produces-. These products must be higher in relation
to cost
3. The day of cheap food is past for a few years at least.
Last
year we only received $20,000 toward our secondary
road sy
tem, this was preparing the Trochu East road for pave-
ment th
s year, te_Dders ha;re a1_roady been called for this project
During
1973, we oil treated 21 miles, regravelled 333 miles,
and built
appro-cimately 36 miles with our grading crews.
Last
year was a difficilt year for roadwork, bridges, and
culverts,
with periods of wet weather and new operators. We
lost several
good operators who went farming. Be,ause of this,
Council
has set up an enirely new wage and working conditions
agreement.
We have gong; to a hour clay with everything over
8 hours
as overtime Vire set up three categories of employees
Junior
tho3e begann,_ng and learning The better qualified
operators,
experienced and showing leadership and ability, are
put into
a Sen_tor atego . y. the -est a -re cla-1-sed Intermediate
For

the 2nd
3rd, and 4th ve rs From then on, pension benefits
and hod

do, is
to get as much fo- olzN dollar a-, is reasonable Good

To g
t more hours frr---m our main crew, it is our intention
to operate
two crews-.T,Lay 15th to Sept 15th when University

student;, are available. This will increase
the ho
s of use of of -serines by 200 to 300 over the season,
as compared
to the e!e::7,n hour day we were working
Council
has increas,.d their Per Diem to $40 00 per day for
1974 There
are only L: few junior employees receiving less on
a per day
basis.
I am
pleased to say that the overpass south of Linden will

I must commend the Council for their excellent support and
