AGRICULTURAL SERVICE BOARD FIELDMANIS REPORT
MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF KNEEHILL NO 48
AGRICULTURAL SERVICE BOARD MEETING
DECEMBER 17, 1973
P 1
A group of people under tha sponsorship of the Three Hills
School Division formed a Committee in September to look
into and offer certain phases of Adult Education. As we
had no 'District Agriculturist at the time, I filled in
until October 3rd when Russel Horvey was able to attend a
meetinI was then able to step down I have not followed
this v ry closely but I understand that the program is
underw y
Gordon Ward and I attended one day of the Canada Weed
Meeting in Calgary on Wednesday, November 28. We had
planned on attending the three days that the meeting was on
After attending the meeting on Wednesday, we were glad that
we hadinot attended the meeting on Tuesday, nor did we
go back for the meeting on Thursday. It was a very necessary
meeting but it was not designed for us and we were quite
unfami iar with the proceedings. There were scientists
and chgmical people who took part that were geared for the
prograi i.
Ralph Brown, Art Bauer, Gordon King and myself attended the
Executive Committee Meeting in Calgary on Wednesday, October 10,
where we were able to present a Brief and discuss some points
of concern We were well received but it is not certain
that too much will be derived from our efforts.
I met ith Vern Grieg, east of Trochu, re his landscaping
afterhe new road was built past his farm I hope that
we wer able to come up with an agreement that will work out
satisf ctorily to all. The weigh scale has been used a number
of tim s and we have been out assisting farmers weighing their
calves on a few occasions I am not sure that I am happy
about this arrangement I can go along with the $5 00
charge when the farmer picks up the scale and does his
own we ghing I do not agree that we should take the scale
out to a farm, do the weighing and still only charge the
$5 00
We wen out to investigate damage that was done at the
Keiver s Lake Park. This was discussed at a Council Meeting.
It is unfortunate that people have to be so juvenile as to
take a axe and smash up an outhouse beyond repair. We
brought all of the camp tables in from all of the Parks It
was ou intention to repair any that are in bad shape and
try to have them all repainted. Glenn and Elton have been
workinr on building new tables this last week
Elton ober kept at the roadside grass seeding right up
until he snow came We got a little behind in this as we
had ex ected that we would have considerable open weather
in whi h to finish up. The new disc has been ordered for
next year's operation
Elton ober, Watson Reed and Glenn Smyth have spent consider-
able t me cutting trees in ditches east and north of Trochu.

This work is not really what I had anticipated as
underbrush and snow became quite a hindrance We
to have ;to cut a lot of wood yet to mix with the
of dry tod that we presently have. Our preesnt
alldryood and it should be mixed with green or
wood. Watson Reed was only with us for four days
He is now working at the Seed Cleaning Plant

The three men spent some time earlier in the fall pruning
trees at the parks and at the schools. These trees were in
bad nee of pruning and the boys did a very good job We were
requested to prune some trees in Swalwell but we have not
done this I have wanted to get out there to look the situa-
tion over but I have not got to this.
The earl y snow and the cold weather has certainly placed
restrictions on very much cattle spraying We have only
sprayed three herds and we expect that the boys are spray-
ing a herd today This has been done when the weather warmed
up
Elton, Clenn and I took part in the E M 0 practice exercise
on Wedn sday, October 31 This was an interesting exercise
for the people involved. I wonder if things would go as
smooth 13 under the real condition I felt that it was
unfortur, ate that a hospital wasn't set up in the Civic
Centre 4o that the public could have witnessed the accident
victims.
I left lere on Monday morning to attend a Wild Oat Control
course Ft Vermillion. It was a full week course and I did
not get back until Friday evening It turned out to be an
exceller,t course but some of us had our doubts about it
until T ur sday. It starred out to be a chhmical Dealer's
Course and there were a few complaints voiced. On hursday,
Henry F eisen and Don Dew came over from the Lacombe
Research Station and tied it all up into something that made
some good sense
All of he information that was presented is to be condensed
and cor elated to be presented, in part, at a three hour
farmer nvolved session and in whole, at a six hour farmer
involve session
A breakdown of some of the expected expenditures will be
towards farmer meetings, large scale demonstrations, advertis-
ing, phone service, grants for additional help in Municipalities
and Counties, special projects, nuisance fees and local
initiat ve programs A lot of this planning has not been
made de finite yet
On December 4 I went to Didsbury to help prepare and bring
back 5, 1080 Baits Two of the baits that I brought back
were from Claresholm and two were from Didsbury. The two from
Claresh lm were extras and were brought to Didsbury by the
Pest Control Officer. John Dorn went with me to set out the

baits We used his 4 -wheel drive with no problems.
I enjoyEd the Christmas Party with the M D people on
Friday night I would like to again thank the Council for
their consideration and for letting me have a small part
in it. I would also like to give a special thanks to all
those who took a very unrehearsed part in the program. I
am sorry that I had to be away the week prior Let's plan
on a little more rehearsal for next year and make our party
something that we all will look forward to
Signed,
