Agreement 16 App 11.30 A M - Representatives of Prov Cabinet to discuss matters of mutual interest 0 0 • FORM 149-P SPECIAL AGRICULTURAL FIELDMAN'S REPORT N AGRICULTURAL SERVICE BOARD MEETING Monday, May 28, 1973 We have been rather busy since Gordon Park left With the additional programs in this area, as compared. to the area that I left, I have found very little free time I ing with me getting the year early am very pleased with the boys that I have work - They appear to be doing good work and they are job done I had understood that Barry Dau was so I had hired him for the 16th of April as I had to spend time finding work for Elton Kober started work on May 1st appeared to be good hired early last This was too he and Glen We picked up the trees from Oliver Nurseries on Friday, April 27 We weighed the loads and we were under the load imit for the road ban I `We ordered 3,000 extra caragana from Indian Head Nurseries in case they were requested This order would have been good had there not been so many trees left over from other plantings We ended up with a surplus of over 20,000 caraganas We were able to dispose of these to surrounding Fieldmen for their areas We could have used more spruce, poplar and lilac in this area I have not received any complaints from the farmers regarding the planting We did have one lady state that she was real leased with their work We purchased a new chain saw through Three Hills Service It is a little larger than the other The cost was $239 5 We received $60 00 for the trade-in We have sprayed a considerable number of cattle for lice and arbles This program appears to be working out O K We ordered 50 lbs of gopher bait from Niagra Chemicals at a cost of $21 50 This is a ready mixed deal The boys treated the area around the Torrington gravel pit There is still some left that could be applied. in other areas if reques ed The Kinsmen had a work -bee on Thursday, May 24 at Kiever's ake Park and 'painted the bath house They did a good fob There is a lot of painting that should be done at these parks that should be considered for the future The boys on the road -crew have been using the I.H C tr ctor I trust that this is in order at Hesket] I attended a meeting on the evening of April 12 1 and discussed A S B work and programs I �01 0 1�1 ECRM 149-0 SPECIAL would be interested in attending more meetings of this nature The 1080 baits have all been picked up and disposed of They were burnt at the gas well west of Three Hills We have picked up some pigs and one calf that were dumped in Municipal District road ditches We picked up a deer that was killed on the road west of Three Hills and the Patch Crew buried it for us We had one complaint on a farmer letting a stubble fire get away from him and burning stubble for two other farmers on land that was to be summer followed We have sent one weed in for identification and have received a reply The weed was Black Menbone and is poisonous to livestock and humans We would appreciate more weeds being brought in for identification We have made some ;partial arrangements for a wild oat demonstration at Jack Bairnes' at Carbon We are also working on a demonstration with a new chemical on buckwheat I have not done too well with the Seed Drill Survey We still have 70 samples to pick up' The Lacombe Research Station have some people working in the Municipal District on a weed research program that could reveal some very good information �e took some samples from the Kneehillree C k west of T ree Hills to have tested for pollution We have not ad a report back to date i We have had a lot of reports on warbles from the auction marts So many that we feel that we would not have time to f llow them all up so we have sent each purchaser and vendox in the area, a letter regarding warble control regulatio s I have been able to have some agricultural Service B and notes in the paper each week I trust that this is i order I would appreciate suggestions for these notes I am enjoying the work in this area very much I trust that my work has been satisfactory I would appreciate hearing any complaints or receiving any suggestions' • • n FORM 149-P SPECIAL O COMBINED MEETING — COUNCIL AND AGRICULTURAL SERVICE BOARD MAY 2$2 1973 P; The comfined meeting. of the Council and the A� tural Servi.c Board was held in the Council Chambe: May 28, 1973 beginning at 9 00 A.M. Carried Mr Nor an Soder gave a brief report concerning foam spray for ro dsides He reported the foam should be faster, andwould cause very little drift, with the cost being about 8 75 per gallon He further stated this is a cost of approximately 44¢ per acre and somewhere between $2 65 and $3 50 per mile He stated there would be less prob ems as there would be no boom to control and less nozzle maintenance and the foam does not affect any chemical that is used Mr T A Ferguson moved to go ahead and try the new foam chemical Carried Mr No an Soder, Agricultural Fieldman, read a copy of his g Fieldman's Report Copy attached NORMAN SODER RE - ROADSIDES A brief discussion was held concerning parks in which PARKS it was generally agreed that a policy should be set up on park maintenance etc Mr S C Schmelke moved the approval of 'Ir Soder's report Carried Brief discussions were then held concerning another NE4d MAN man for the Service Board. OF AGRICULTURE RE - AGREEMENT 0 0 CJ n COMBINED MEETING — COUNCIL AND AGRICULTURAL SERVICE BOARD MAY 2$, 1973 page 4 - Warble inspection in Federal Auction Markets was discussed briefly in which Mr Soder advised council that the Brand Inspector who has been looking after our Warble Control Program has a lot of complaints of animals coming from Edmonton, Calgary, and Lethbridge areas Mr Soder stated that the animals coming from these Federal Auction Markets have no protection or no _.c.,:_azLs whatsoever against warbles Pr R G Campbell moved we write a letter to Mr Jack Kerns advising him of our problem Carried WARBLES Mr Soder stated that the Provincial Weed Tour will WEED TOUR be held on July 25 and 26 in Grande Prairie He further asked about his Service Board notes in the paper and Council left these notes at Mr Soder's discre tion Mr Soder reported that Glen Smyth was married on May 26 and is taking this week off He further asked if Mr Smyth could be paid for this week He further reported that he was very happy with his work but unhappy with his salary He felt that it cost him x:100 00 in mileaEc and $460 00 in moving expenses to come to Threc Hills and he further stated that he is losing about )50 00 to w75 00 per �,-ionth from his previ— ous salarny Psr Soder was advised that the above would be brought up to Council later on in the afternoon YIr Soder reported that he had got prices on a new tape recorder and they run anywhere between ;110 00 to :?:150 00 Mr A H Church moved we purchase a new tape recorder and apply for a 50% grant from the Department of Agriculture on it Carried NIr E Germaine and Roger Blackwood entered the meeting again from Highwood Air Services and more discussions were held concerning roadside spraying etc Mr G C Ward moved that this meeting adjourn at h.. The total thus due to the t" town of Tro hu was $$9597°$1° Mr Schmelke moved that this r port be accepted and payment made to the town of Trochu of $$,597 $1 Carried Minutes as received from recreation boards of Linden, Torrington, and Three Hills were referred to ✓ briefly Mr Church moved that these be accepted and filed Carried Copy of the letter of April 2, 1973 from Alberta Hospital Services Commission to all hospitals was read in regard to possible 1973 requisitions The letter of May 11, 1973 from the Minister of Munici— pal Affairs was also read in respect to requisitions and it stated that no requisitions are to be paid by the Municipality for hospital costs except for extra— ordinary costs such as site i ,.ri.: C,r , I,:::i ant or a deficit incurred b the operation of an ambulance service. It was notEd that the Honorable Mr Farran and the Honorable Er Warrack, cabinet ministers, had agreed with the 1 tter from the Minister of Municipal Affairs and had st ted no requisitions should be received from hospitals this year unless the Council had agreed witl the Hospital Board to raise additional money for xtra—ordinary costs.
