HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-05-29 Council MinutesAGRICULTURAL FIELDMANS REPORT TO A.S.B. 1vMETING May 29, 1968 The Pesticide Course held at Olds was very worthwhile. The lab sessions were good, giving us much needed training in the identification of insects and weeds The 1080 Baits which were set out this past winter were not too well eaten but reports from some of the farmers would prove that satisfactory kill had been obtained from their use The new insecticide sprayer has been purchased from Golden Arrow Manu- facturing and works very well The trees were picked up at the Oliver Nursery on April 23, 1968 and planting was comp.':ted on May 16, 1968 About 90,900 trees were planted this year, a decrease from last year A very well attended Pruning School was held at Three Hills with 104 persons in attendance. Three Fertilizer plots have been set out as planned, at Ralph Browns, H. C. Currie & Sons and Bill Irvings at Huxley. Signs have been prepared to put up at these plots. One hundred samples of seed were taken at random throughout the District id have been forwarded to Edmonton for analysis Fifty four cleaned at inlcipal Plants, 20 at Private Plants, 10 at Portable Plants, 14 at Elevators id 2 from seed firms. A start has been made seeding grass but the wind has slowed this operation >wn . The trees at all school yards have been cultivated and replacements made sere necessary. The camp kitche-,s (tables, etc ) and out buildings have been cleaned using disinfecting solution The roadside sprayer has been changed over to the 700 Ford Gravel truck uch council had offered for sale Some repairs have been made to the •ansmission. 1v'1r Ray Hall owner of NE 8 & NW9- 31 -24 -4 has hired his farm work done so Lis problem has cleared up for the present at least.
