Poole, Council member, Mr P J G Rock, Ratepayer member, Mr J P Christie, Ratepayer member, Mr Dan Peter 3, District Agriculturist, Mr G L. Park, Agricultural Fieldman, Mr. H J Hanson, Secretary to the Board Also present were Mr 3 W Pettem, D A from Drumheller, who will be serving this area in the absence of Mr. Dan Peters, and Mr Lorne Boese, Assistant Agricultural Fieldman. The ininutes of the combined meetingg of the Council and the Agricultural Service Board held Oct 30/97, were referred to and discussed at some length Mr Rock moved that these minutes be approved Motion carried Mr 11ordon Park, Agricultural Fieldman, gave the following report Quote - D Peters, D A and myself have selected three farms for Fertilize Demonstration plots in 1968 Soil Samples have been taken and forwarded for analysis, but results have not arrived as yet. The locations are Bill Irving - S.E - 16- 34 -23 -4, H C Currie & Sons -SW -4 31 -22 -4 a d R W Brown - 5E- 26- 29 -25 -4• We h ve been setting up a file and map system for our tree planting rogram which should make it easier to refer to any tree planting toing back the past 3 years. Abou.t 850 head of cattle have been sprayed this fall Chem cal warehouse now has roof on and shingled, has been worked on in spare time mainly We are now ready to insulate and line this building Wiring and heating will also be required. When the gas pipeline was being put in to this building from- the shop site, we had a trench dug and gas line installed over to A S B garage I would recommend that a hanging type of heater be installed in this building as there are many times in the winter when we could do small fobs There are also times when we are spraying Ind have a few gallons of spray left in the sr�.. , �, �;r and more to d next day, but either have to drain the tank and pump or put th truck in the M D garage which is often full Have prepared four 1080 baits and will be putting these out this week weather permitting We used a cow this year I at ended an executive meeting of the Ag rieldman Assoc in Edmont n this past week. Considerable discussion took place regarding A S B agreements - End of quote Mr hilip Rock and Mr Gordon Park then gave a report of the Farm Conference held in Edmonton on Nov 16th and 17th Ne janagement ther party were too impressed with this Conference. Mr Pole moved that the verbal report of these two delegates be approv d. This was ordered filed, without motion The loard then discussed the system of Township Captains being used in t is area for the Bangs vaccinations program, and whether the numbei of head being vaccinated warranted this system Mr hristie moved that the Board recommend to Council that the y on inue with Township Captains forthe Bangs Vaccination program f r one more year and that it again be reviewed at that time Mo ion carried. Mr. ock moved that, for the year 1968, payments to Township Captains e at the rate of $7 50 plus 15¢ per head vaccinated in their res ective areas. After discussion, this motion was withdrawn. Mr. Fettem reported that he had received some complaints in the Drumheller area whereby topsoil is being removed and the land left in a very poor condition Sec 11A of the Soil Conservation Act was r ferred to which permits Council to control the removal of topsoi under a system of permits or some other means. Also the regul tions of some other Municipal Districts and Counties were referred o Mr. ock moved that Mr. Gordon Park and Mr Stan Pettem study the situa ion and report back to the next Service Board meeting with reco mendations regarding a by- law,etc Motion carried. Mr oole moved that the Service Board recommend to Council that they authorize that heat be installed in the Agricultural Service B and garage Motion carried Mr ark, Agricultural Fieldman, asked the Board for ideas for the proposed 196g program to be drawn up at the next meeting Mr Christie suggested that some fertilizer trials be placed on alkali lands, also that some trials of aerial spraying for brush control in the co lees along the Red Deer river be tried The matter of having signs made up which would mark these fertilizer trial plots so that they could be observed by the public was then discussed Mr Peters moved that Mr Park, Ag. Fieldman, be authorized to have the abo-e noted signs made up Motion carried. Mr hristie moved that the next meeting of the Agricultural Service Board be on call of the Agricultural Fieldman. Carried Mr. 4aordon Park moved a vote of thanks to Mr Dan Peters for his work in co- operation over the past 12 years and wished him well in his further studies for the next 6 month period. The matter of the Alberta Farm Purchase Board being continued by the Provincial Department of Agriculture was discussed at some length Mr Rock pointed out that in many instances where a party wishes to purchase land, but is unable to borrow the money through See Page 3 the Farm are locat might be A S B meeting - Dec.1$ /67 Page 3 credit Corporation due to the fact that no buildings :d on the land to be purchased, he felt that the money nade available through the Alberta Farm Purchase Board. Mr lock moved that the Secretary write to the Department of Agriculture and the Premier of Alberta urging that the Alberta Farm Purc ase Board Act be continued and more money be made avail- able, and that this Act be applicable in cases where they are eliminated from bgrrowing from the Farm Credit Corporation due to the building requirement of that Corporation Motion carried.
