SHOP SAFETY COYAMITTEE MEETING M.D. of Kneehill No 48 eting of the Shop and Safety Committee of the istrict of Kneehill No 48 was held in the Municipal ee Hills on the afternoon of October 4th, 1966. tee members present ncan Peters W Poole seph Dobler C. King, Sec -Treas were to the Committee of the M D The minutes of the previous meeting held April 6th, 1966 were read by the Secretary Mr. Poole moved that the minutes be approved aE read Motion carried The minutes were then discussed in detail with the various items ment oned 1. ThE Shop at Three Hills - the stucco has been patched and the exteri r repainted. 2 ThE fans and the ventilating system had not as yet been moved, but it was suggested that the crew do the necessary carpenter work, etc. and that an electrician be hired to do the necessary wiring It was also suggested that each fan be placed on a sep- arate circ it 3. e First Aid Kit had been ordered and placed in the Motor Grader in liv.2. 4. T e floor in the north part of the main shop at Carbon had not been r paired and that it was breaking up quite badly and this should be &ne this Fall. 5 The foremen of each crew was instructed to check each machine an4 shop to make certain that they were equipped with the necessary gire extinguishers. Mr. P ters moved that the matter of repairing the floor at the Carbon Shop and the change in the ventilating system at the Three Hills Shop be referred to the next Council meeting for action Motion carried. Mr D bier then reported that the Travelall used to transport the gravel truck drivers to and from work was broken down and that he was now using his own vehicle to transport the men until the repairs co ld be made to the Travelall The f remen were then asked if each crew had a First Aid Record Boo1I for recording injuries and they stated that they did have such e book and it was being used It waE then suggested that a small set of pressure gauges be purchased to be used by the Municipal mechanic. This matter is to be referre to Council for their consideration A dis ussion regarding the extension of shops at Carbon and Three Hill followed. Various ex'erpts and motions passed by Council regarding his matter were then read to the Committee. It was noted that the 1 st meeting of Council passed a motion that a building permit be pplied for to extend the Municipal Metal shop at Three Hills. This permit had not as yet been applied for. It was re- ported that the area where our Municipal Shop is located in Three Hills has teen slated for urban renewal. It was then noted that action on this urban renewal could be at any time in the future. It was the general feeling of the committee that the yard at Three Hills was not. large enough and should possibly be relocated elsewhere. Three possible sites were discussed An ex ension of our culvert yard being on the west side of the railway tricks, or the p operty owned by Mr. W.J. Schmidt immediately south of our present cu vert yard, or the p operty owned by Mrs. Edwards on the south side of the road acros from W. & T. owne Gravel and Cement works A pho e call to the Town office was then placed asking the acreages of the various sites. Mrs Edwards owns 25 8 acres and Linden Contractors 12 2 acres in the NE- 36- 31 -24 -4 within the Town limits. The Committee then made an inspection of each nf these locations It was noted that the railway crossing at the south end of Towt would cause the vehicles to cross three railway tracks and vision at this crossing was not good It was stated that the Town was to build a road from the north on the west side of the tracks and this would eliminate the necessity of using this crossing. to any great extent The committee then also looked at the other two sites, the one across the road owned by Mr. W.J. Schmidt and the one to the north owned by Mrs. B. Edwards Mr. Paquette stated that shoull a new location for a Municipal yard be obtained, and a new stor ge shop placed on it, the present metal building should be moved o to the site also as otherwise fuel would have to be located at the two locations as well as the other equipment nec- essary to 3ervice the machines The S cretary was then instructed to get prices for the purchase o land at the various sites inspected, and that this matter thei be referred back to Council at their meeting on Oct. 11th It wa suggested that the Committee do now endeavor to have regular me tings and at least a meeting every two months.
