Mr. C. Doan (reeve) and Mr. J Masson (Sec - Treas.) of the
County f Red Deer, met with our Council in response to our invitat-
ion to ring information to us it regard to negotiations with a
labor u ion. They outlined the procedures they had followed in
dealing with NUPE and stated that it was not as bad as expected
but they fear that the dealing may become difficult later
if the pion gains in strength. They felt there was one advantage
in having a union contract in that the working conditions and terms
are now spelled out in detail and each party knows exactly what
is expected The agreement which the Red Deer County now has with
its road employees wax read and discussed and a copy was _left with
us. They advised that any negotiations be done by a committee of
one or wo councillors and the Secretary- Treasurer and that these
go into a huddle before making any statements to the other side
They fu ther stated that their County is contracting about "155,000
of they work and it was agreed that the work might have to be
curtail ?d if increased costs put the total cost of any ;oroject
beyond he budget. Mr. Doan and Mr. Masson were given a sincere
vote of thanks for attending our meeting and giving us information
Mr. Boese moved that a letter be written to the County
of Red eer exroressing our thanks for the co- operation from Mr.
Doan an Mr Masson Carried.
