gular meeting on Monday the 21st day of February, 1949
at 9.30 a.m.
Councillors present: John W. Olson, John A. Ohlhauser,
taltz, Hugh Parry, S C Schmelke and C. C. Campbell.
Councillor absent. F. C. Petersen.
Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the minutes of the last
Feting be approved and adopted. Carried.
The Secretary - Treasurer read the Financial Statement

Moved by Mr. Schmelke that the Financial Statement
,d and adopted. Carried*
Mr Jack Ceefried, 335 - 11th Ave. West, Calgary,
was pres nt, and interviewed the Council on the matter of
an accid nt in November, 1948 in which his truck, loaded with
coal, rai into the Lone Pine Creek at NE- 13- 30- 26-4. After
some dis ussion, Ceefried made an offer of settlemenj for
the sum f $700.00. It was mowed by Mr. Ohlhauser that Mr.
Parry anI Mr. Purvis be appointed as a Committee to interview
Mr. Haro d Millican, Lawyer, for legal advice on this matter.
Carried.
The Secretary - Treasurer reported to the Council that
Mrs. Sto rtes, of Swalwell, Alberta, who resides in the house
on Lots 1 & 42, Block 3, Swalwell, is in arrears since Aug.
1948 wita payments for rent. The Secretary - Treasurer also
reported that he has received information that Mrs. Stobries
spends m ney in the Swalwell beer parlor. It was moved by
Mr. Schur ltz that the Secretary - Treasurer be instructed to take
the nece sary steps to have Mrs. Stobriest name placed on the
list of hose prohibited from buying liquor. Carried.
The Secretary - Treasurer reported to the Council that
11'r. E. R. Wacker, Swalwell, wishes to rent the small snow -plow
attachment for the Huber tractor. It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz
that this attachment be not rented, and that Mr. Wacker be
advised that it will be sold to him for $300.00, cash. Carried.

It was moved by Mr. Olson that the necessary steps be
taken to'have Mr. Litvak lodged in the Linden Home, Swalwell,
as a charge of this Municipal District. Carried.
It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that Mr. Schmaltz and
Mr. Camp ell be appointed as delegates of this Municipal Dist-
rict to the meeting of the Central Alberta Association of
Municipal Districts to be held in Red Deer Feb. 26th, 1949.
Carried.
Mr. Ohlhauser reported that he had interviewed Mr.
W. R. Su lzle, Carbon, about his unpaid hospital account, and
Mr. Suelile promised to pay this bill.
Moved by Mr. Schmelke that $40.00 be paid to ,tU
Mary P 4oertzen, owner of N� and SE- 1331- 26-.4, this amount
being thg sum realized from the sale of green -feed grown on
said land. Carried.
Moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the account of Mr. Fred
Ohlhauser, pound. - keeper, for $7.10 be paid. Carried.
Mr John Harsch was present, and discussed with the
Council he matter of the estray animal (one white Yorkshire
sow) Sol in the Ohlhauser pound Jan. 31, 1949. It was moved
by Mr S hmaltz that Mr. John Harsch be paid $5.00 for keeping
the anim 1 in accordance with orders from the R C. M P.
Carried.
Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that spi advance of $15,000.00
on 1949 equisition be paid to the Wheatland School Division
No. 40, Carried.
I Moved by Mr. Campbell that payment be made of the
requisition (From Jan. 1st to March 31st, 1949) of the Drum-
heller Health Unit- amount $170.00 Carried.
Moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that approval be given to

The Secretary - Treasurer reported that the residents of
the Wimbmrne area wish to have their children inoculated, the
same to 1be undertaken by the Municipal District. Moved by Mr.
Schmaltzthat the Board of the Trochu Municipal Hospital Dist..

Third reading was given to By-Law No. 106 (A By-Law

to Mrs, Sames Bolton, of Big Valley, Alta. for $300,00).
Moved by Mr. Olson that third reading of this By. -Law be passed
and appr ved. Carried.
Third reading was given to B Law No. 104 (A By -Law
to provide for the sale of South-Eas t `of Sec, 10- 34.22 «4 to
Mr„ Carl Knudsen, of Huxley, .Alberta, for $325,00). Moved by
Mr. Schur lke that third reading of this By-Law be passed and
approved Carried.
The Secretary- "'reasurer reported that a payment of
$681.95 has been received from the Department of Public Works,
Edmonton This payment represents 50% of the cost of labor,
and 100% of the cost of materials, used in repairing the
bridge between Sections 19 and 20 -30 -25.4 in the spring of
1948. It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the Secretary. - Treasure„
be authorized to pay 50% of labor accounts, and 100% of the
material accounts, incurred on the said job. Carried.
Moved by Mr, Schmaltz that $8,000 insurance be
placed om the Three Hills machine shop/ in the agencies of
Mr. J. GI Umbrite, Carried.
Mr. G. G. King, Assistant Secretary- Treasurer,
submitted the pay - .sheets for the _month of Kanuary, 1949, and
it was m lzed by Mr. Campbell that all pay. - sheets approved
by the Councillor concerned be passed for payment. Carried.
Mr. C. J Christie, Assistant Secretary.- Treasurer,
submitted the accounts for the month of January, 1949; and
it was moved by Mr, Ohlhauser that the following accounts

Annual Ratepayers' Meeting Feb. 21,1949.

The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Municipal
District of Kneehill No 48 was held in the Lyric Theatre, in
Three Hills, Alberta, on Yonday the 21st day of February, 1949,
starting at 1.00 p.m.
The Returning Officer, R. C. Milligen, called the
meeting to order at 1.00 p.m , and called for Nominations for
Chairma .
Mr. Matthew Schmaltz nominated Mr. Claude Webb.
Moved by Mr E J. C Boake, seconded by Mr R. W.
Brown, that nominations be closed. Carried.
The Returning Officer declared Mr. Claude Webb
elected by acclamation as Chairman of the meeting.
The Chairman called for nominations for Secretary
of the eting.
Mr. R C 11illigen nominated A J Purvis.
' No further nominations being received, A. J. Purvis
was declared elected as Secretary of the meeting
The Secretary reach. the minutes of the annual Tmeeting
held on February 23rd, 1948; and it was moved by Mr. E. M. Brown,
seconded by Mr. Oscar Keirle, that same be adopted as read
Carried.
The Chairman asked the Secretary to read the Auditorts
Financia Statement for the year 1948. This was done, and
same was discussed by the meeting.
Moved by Mr. Henry Davis, seconded by Mr. Ralph
Loosmore, that Mr Roy Colwell, Secretary- Treasurer of the
Three Hills Municipal Hospital District, be requested to
come to the meeting. Motion lost.
The Secretary - Treasurer's Supplementary Report
was read, and it was moved by Mr. Rey Haymond, seconded by
Mr. R Brown that same be continued in future years. Carried.
At 3.00 p.m. the Returning Officer called for
nominations for the following offices:
Councillors, Division #2 and #4.
Drumheller IVlunicipal Hospital. one member

At 4.00 p.m. the Returning Officer declared nominations
closed; and announced that he had received the following nomin-

It was moved by Mr. R. W. Brown, seconded by Mr.
d, that the Auditor's Financial Statement be
Carried.
There was considerable discussion on the matter of
snow plowing of roads; and it was moved by Mr. E. M. Brown,
and seconded by Mr C. W. Edwards, that the Council be asked
to dram up routes and regulations for the operation of the
Munici al Distrietts snow- plows. Carried.
Moved by Mr. D. J. Brodner, seconded by Mr. Ralph
Loosmo e, that this meeting authorize the sending of a letter
to the Department of Education asking for a more eqnitable
distribution of Grants to Schools. Motion lost.
Moved by Mr. George Park, seconded by Mr R. W.
Brown, that this meeting authorize the sending of a letter
to the Provincial Government, requesting the Provincial
Governnent to assume a greater share in the cost of elementary
and hi ph school education. Carried.
Mr. Matt. Schmaltz introduced Mr. W. D Gentleman
Field upervisor, and Mr Gentleman: briefly addressed the
meetin . Mr. John G. Umbri_te, retiring Field Supervisor,
also a dressed the meeting.
Mr Ralph Loosmore moved a vote of thanks and
apprec Rtion to Mr. Umbrite for his services as Field Super-
visor uring 1946, 1947 and 1948.
Mr. N. F. Bell, District Agrtculturist, briefly
addres ed the meeting.
