The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill #48
-gular meeting on Monday, the 13th day of September, 1948,
at 10.00 a.m.
Councillors present: Mr. J. W. Olson, 111r. J. A. Ohl -
hauser, r. Matt. Schmaltz, Mr. H. Parry, Mr. F. C. Petersen,
Mr. S. C. Schmelke and Mr. C C. Campbell.
Moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the minutes of the last
Council eeting be adopted. Carried.

Third reading was given to By -Law No. 98 (A By -Law
to provide for the sale of Lots 13 -17 inclusive, Block 2,
Hamlet of Huxley to Wm A. Young for $25.00). Moved by Mr.
Campbell that third reading of this By -Law be passed and approved.
Carried.
Third reading was given to By -Law No. 100 ( A By -Law
to provide for the sale of Lots 7, 8 and 9, Block 4, Hamlet of
Swalwell to H. A. Gardner for $90 00) Moved by Mr. Ohlhauser
that third reading of this By -Law be passed and approved.
Carried.
Third reading was given to By -Law No. 101 (A By -Law
to provide for the sale of Lots 29, 30 and 31, Block 3, Hamlet
of Huxley to John Johnson for $85.00). Moved by Mr. Olson
that third reading of this By -Law be passed and approved.
Carried.
First reading was given to By -Law No. 102 (A By -Law
to?rovi e for the acquisition of a Bunk-Car-Trailer at a cost
of $1,10 00) Moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that first reading of
By -Law No. 102 be passed and approved. Carried.
Second reading was given to By -Law No. 102, and it was
moved by Mr. Petersen that second reading of this By -Law be
passed a d approved. Carried.

The Secretary- Treasurer gave a report on the accident
on Aug. 7th, 1948, in which Wm. Howell, foreman, was injured
and the I I lunicipal District's Ford Truck damaged. It was moved
by Mr. Schmaltz that the report be accepted Carried.
The Secretary - Treasurer read a letter from Mr. Edward
Hagel, of Beiseker, Alberta, asking for the approval of the
Council of the admission into Canada from Germany of Mrs. Mag-
dalena Volk (age 36 years) and her son Victor Volk (age 11 years).
It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that Mr. Edward Hagel be asked to
sign a g arantee to assume responsibility for the maintenance
and medi al care of the said persons for three years after their
arrival n Car-nda; and if said guarantee is given, that the
Council Ipprove of the admission of the said persons into Canada.

Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that letter be sent to the
Department of Public Works, informing the Department that
the Brid e on the road diversion south of SE- 19- 20-25 -4 is
a Governnent bridge, and should be replaced with two culverts
4811 in diameter and 30 ft. long. Carried
Moved by Mr. Petersen that Mr. Eric Ratledge, Optom-
etrist, be informed that the Municipal District will assume
the cost (to the extent of $18.00) of spectacles for John
Selta, Linden Home, Swalwell, Alta. Carried.
Mr. Campbell_ vas asked to get information regarding
Mrs. Rasmussen and family of Huxley, Alta. and report same to
next meeting of the Council.
The Secretary - Treasurer read a letter from the
A. A. M D. regarding Holidays for employees; also Order #6
of the B and of Industrial Relations as published in The
Alberta azette of July 15, 1947. It was moved by Mr. Ohl -
hauser t at the Secretary - Treasurer be instructed to comply
with ter s and conditions of the said Order as it affects the
employee of this Municipal District. Carried.

It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the Cheque #3409
be mail d to The Prairie Bible Institute. Carried.
The Council adjourned from 12.30 to 1.30 for lunch.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr. Ohlhauser be appointed
to inve tigate that matter of the Imperial Oil bulk plant
at Carbon, Alberta, as reported in their letter of Aug 30th,
1948. Carried.
It was moved by Mr. Campbell that the Municipal
District accept grants of $3,000 from the Provincial Govern-
ment for the rebuilding of the Olds - Trochu road; also $4,000
for the repair of damage by floods in various places in the
Municipal District; and that the Reeve and Secretary - Treasurer
be auth rized to sign agreements accordingly. Carried.
Moved by Mr. Parry that approval be given to the
applica ion of Peter L. Toews for Old Age Pensions. Carried.
Mrs. Olga Beagrie interviewed the Council on the
matter f the ikprovement of the road East of Sections 13 &
24 -30 -2 -4.
It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the sum of $60.00
be offered to Braidwood and Meers as compensation for 0.91 acres
of land taken from SW -26- 33..26-.4 for Cemetery. Carried.
It was moved by Mr Petersen that $30.00 be paid
Mr. L. 0. Abram for labor in hauling earth from his dug -out
and using same to make a fill on the road between Sections
33 and 34- 29 -22 -4. Carried.
Moved by Mr. Petersen that the Supervisor of Rural
Health Units be informed that the Council approve of the
inclusion into the proposed Drumheller Health Unit of that
part of this Municipal District which lies within the
Drumheller Municipal Hospital District No. 3. Carried.
Mr. Gordon McCracken interviewed the Council on
the mat er of an outlet for him from E-Z- 21- 29 -22 -4 to the
Carbon- rumheller road Mr, Schmaltz moved that Mr. Olson
and Mr. Ohlhauser meet with Mr. McCracken and Mr. R. Go
Sayler n this matter. Carried.
Mr. Henry Haffner interviewed the Council on the
matter of the Agricultural Service Board's action in regards
to his farm. Mr. Schmaltz, Chairman of the A. S. Bd. informed
Mr. Haffner that the Board will meet the early part of October
and give his problem further consideration.
Mr. H. R. Dickinson, representing Industrial & Road
Equipme t Ltd., interviewed the Council.
Mr, E, R. Fleetham, representing Costello Equipment
Co. Ltd , interviewed the Council.
A statement of claim for $122,75 damages to his car
was submitted by 1r. Frank Vasseur, Three Hills, Alta. He alleges
that his car was damaged in a hole in a bridge 1 mile east of
Trochu It was moved by 1t11r, Campbell that the claim be refused,
and tha Mr. Vasseur be advised accordingly. Carried,
It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that James O'Rourke be
charged $12.00 for tractor rentals, and that he be paid $12.00
as compensation for damages to his fences by crews of the
Municipal District, Carried,
Moved by Per. Schmelke that Ted Wilkinson be paid
$38.96 for labor in spraying weeds. Carried*

350 per and for screening and loading gravel. Carried.
Mr. G. G. King, Asst. Secretary - Treasurer, submitted
the pay.- beets, and it was moved by Mr. Campbell that the pay -
sheets w ich have been approved by the Councillor concerned, be
now pass id for payment. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that part of the area of Block "All
in the Village of Beiseker (which is ovmed by the Municipal Dist-
rict) be exchanged for an equal area of that part of NW- 12- 28 -26 -4
which li s between Block "A" and the Right -of -Way of the
Canadian Pacific Railway Co., the said exchange to be made with.
Mrs. Eip osina Schmaltz, owner of NW- 12- 28 -26 -4, who agrees to
bear the cost of making the necessary surveys and transfers of
properties. Carried.,
Mr. Parry moved that Ed, Thomson and A. F. Helton be
advised 4o pay into the Municipal Office their donations toward
the cost of gravelling the road 4 miles west of SE corner of
27- 31- 24•t4, otherwise work will not be done. Carried.
Moved by Mr. Petersen that Council adjourn. Carried.
