Ohlhauser, ,hmaltz, Hugh Parry, F. C. Petersen and S. C. Schmelke. Councillor absent: C. C. Campbell, It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the minutes of .1 Meeting held on July 12th, 1948 be approved. It was moved by Mr. Petersen that permission be given m of Three Hills to lay its pipe lines across the road between NE and SE•- 36 -31- 24..4, and the road allowance ;- 35•-31 -24..4 and SW- 36 -31- 24-4. Carried. It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that Mr. Parry be appointed to investigate the application of Mrs. W J. Davidson for a Restaurant License at Sunnyslope, Alberta, Carried. It was moved by Mr. Petersen that $10.00 per month be deducted from Paul Elvinzs wages, and same sent to the Holy Cross Hospital to be applied on his hospital account, Carried. It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the order of the Alberta Jes sessment Commission re the appeal of Mr. Richard Garrett accepted; and the Secretary - Treasurer was instructed to make a required changes in the assessment roll. Carried. It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that application be made to the Alberta Assessment Commission for a re- assessment io 1949 cf those parcels of land in the Municipal District ol whose assessment has been affected since the general assessment was made by the opening and closing of schools. Carried. It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that Cheque No. 3409 (Prairie able Institute: $889.50) be held until the next meet- ing of the Council. Carried. It was moved by Mr. Petersen that Mr. R. W. Currie be paid $4.00 for the use of his car in getting repairs from Drumheller, Carried, It was moved by Mr. Parry that approval be given to the application of William Toews to operate a Garage, a retail electrical supply business, and a farm implement agency at the hamlet of Linden, Alberta. Carried„ It was moped by Mr. Ohlhauser that a second request be made of the Prairie Bible Institute for a list of its staff members Who are gainfully employed. Carried, It was moved by Mr. Petersen that Mr. Donald Ander- son be paid $10.00 compensation for damages to his fences during the winter of 1947 -8. Carried, It was moved by Mr Ohlhauser that the correspon- dence be filed for reference. Carried. Mr. N. F. Bell., District Agriculturist, and J. G. Umbrite, Field Supervisor, interviewed the Council on matters respecting the Agricultural Service Board activities. It was moved by Mr. Schmelke that Mr, Wilkinson be engaged to spray toad flax on road allowances, and that he be paid $1.00 per hour wag s, and 8¢ per mile for use of his car; also that the Company cwning the spraying machine be paid 50¢ per hour rental f r same (for the time the machine is in operation). Carried. At 12.15 the Council adjourned for Lunch, and resumed business at 1.30 p.m. Mr. Andrew Stankievech interviewed the Council on the matter of an accident in which his car was damaged by fall- ing into an open bridge between Sections 2 & 3-32 -24-4. It was moved by Mr. Petersen that $200.00 be paid to Mr. Stankievech in full Eettlement of his claim for damages. Mr. Edward Maerz and Mr. Schneider interviewed the Council on the matter of the completion of grading of road at .0 & 15-32-26-4. Mr. Schmelke stated that this work would be done as soon as gsible after the gravelling of the Three Hills West road is pleted. Mr. G. G. King, Asst. Secretary - Treasurer, submitted the publ c works statement for month of July, 1948. C. Petersen that the public tement be accepted and approved. Carried. Mr. King also submitted the pay- sheets for the month of July, 1948, and it was moved by Mr. Schmelke that the pa.y - sheets w1iich have been approved by the Councillor concerned be now passed f r payment, Carried, Mr. Ohlhauser and Mr. Olson reported that they had intervie ed Mr. L. 0. Abram, who asks for the payment of 460.00 for the ilding of an earth grade between NE- 33- 29 -22 -4 and NW-34-29 22 -4. It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the sum of $30.00 b offered as settlement for this work. Carried* Mr. Parry and Mr. Schmelke reported that they had investigated the site of the Torrington Nuisance Grounds on North-We it corner of SE- 4.-33- 26.4; that the Council should have contacts owner before survey was made; that the site of the nuisance grounds is j mile removed from the main road and is rough, c eek land. It was moved by Mr Parry that compensation at the r to of $40.00 per acre (for 2.53 acres) be made to the owners ol the said land. Carried. Mr. J. A. Ohlhauser and Mr, J W. Olson reported that the had investigated the matter of the Community well in the Haml t of Hesketh; that the cribbing in the well is rotted away; th y recommend that a 30" culvert be used to crib the well, and also recommend that the work be done in the fall of 1948, Mr, Ohlhauser reported that he had investigated the matter o, an application to lease j mile of road allowance between - 11 -29- -23.4 and SW- 14..29 -23 -4 (application from E. J. Martin). His report shows that it is unlikely that E. J. Martin will make application for the lease of this road. Mr. Olson and Mr. Ohlhauser reported that a temporary crossing across the K.neehill Creek has been constructed at 13 & 24«.30- 23..40 Mr. Ohlhauser moved that Mr, Christie be instructed to make Further investigations in the matter of Motherst Allow- ance for Mrs. Morse, of Huxley, Alta. Mr Forster, representing Cruikshank Road Machinery Co. interviewed the Council. Mr. Fleetham, representing Costello Equipment Co., interviewed the Council. It was moved by Mr. J. W. Olson that we get inform- ation fr m the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts on the matter o holidays with pay for road employees of municipal districti who are paid wages on an hourly basis. Carried. It was moved by Mr. Parry that the approval of the Council be given to the application of David Ratzlaff and Peter Baerg for a license to operate a Feed mill at Linden, Alberta., Carried. The Secretary- treasurer reported that 108 acres of NW-27-31-24-4 has been sold to the Town of Three Hills; also approximately 110 acres of SE- 27- 31 -24 -4. It was moved by Mr. 0 hauler that the said lands be exempted from taxation as provi ed in Section 5 (d) of The Assessment Act.
