The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill #48
held a r gular meeting on Monday the 12th day of July, 1948,
starting at 10.00 a.m.
I Councillors present. J. W. Olson, J. A. Ohlhauser,
M. Schmaltz, H. Parry, F. C. Petersen and S. C. Schmelke.
Councillor absent: C. C Campbell.
It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the minutes of the
previous Council meeting be adopted. Carried.
The Secretary- Treasurer submitted the Financial
Statemen for the month of June, 1948.

Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr. Olson and Mr. Ohlhauser be
appointe to investigate the matter of grading of road referred to
in Mr. L. 0 Abram's letter. Carried.

It was moved by Mr. Olson that Mr.
Parry be appointed to investigate the matter
of the Torrington Nuisance grounds referred
Goettts letter. Carried.

Mr. Petersen moved assistance from the Municipal Dist-
rict to Mr. Paul Boronets bey discontinued at once, as Mr. Boro-
nets is now in receipt of Old Age Pension. Carried,
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr. Ohlhauser and Mr. Olson
be appointed to investigate the matter of the well in Hesketh
referred to in Mr. Stark Keinickts letter. Carried.
Mr. Olson reported to the Council that he had investi-
gated the dispute between R. D. Barnes and F. F. Fuller re
impounde horses, and recommends that an award of $10.00 be paid
to R. D. Barnes for damages caused by F. F. Fuller's horses
It was m ved by Mr. Petersen that this report and recommendation
be appro ed, and payment of anaward of $10.00 to R. D. Barnes
authoriz d; also that the deposit of $2.00 paid by Mr. Fuller
to cover costs of investigation be refunded to him. Carried.
Moved by Mr. Petersen that the Department of Public
Health be advised that the matter of the proposed Drumheller
Health Unit be tabled until such time as action is taken by the
larger included areas of the proposed unit. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Arthur Schaffer be paid $127.20
for 3.18 acres of land taken for road diversion in NE- P- 30 -26 -4;
and that Ernest Hanslip be paid $45.60 for 1.01 acres of land
taken fr m NW- 9- 30 -26 -4 and 0.13 acres taken from SW -1630 -26.4
for road.diversion. Carried. (Cheque 3407 & 3408)
It was moved by Mr. Schmelke that the offer of Mr.
H. A. Gardner to buy Lots 7, 8 and 9, Block 4, Swalwell, for
$90.00 be accepted; and that first reading of By -Law No. 981o.0
to authorize the said sale be passed. Carried.
Second reading was given to By -Law No. -9&, and it
was moved by Mr. Petersen that same be passed. Carried.
The Secretary - Treasurer was instructed to inform
Mr D. G. Goertzen that his brother is not entitled to assist-
ance from this Municipal District as he is not a resident.
It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that refund be paid
to the P airie Bible Institute of the sum of $889.50, being
1945 tax,s paid on June 23rd, 1945 by Receipt No. 3002;
the said refund being paid under protest. Carried. (Ch. 3409)
Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that we ask for advice from
the Depa tment of the Attorney- General on the matter of the
refusal cf the Prairie Bible Institute to furnish us with a
list of those who are sibject to Minimum Taxes. Carried.
Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the application of Mrs.
Lily Gou die for Motherst Allowance be accepted, and recommend-
ation ma a that an allowance of $15.00 per month be paid to
her. Ca ried.
Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that Mr. Ohlhauser be appointed
!to investigate the application of E. J. Martin for lease of
,J mile of road allowance between NW- 11..29- 23"4 and SW- 14- 29 -23 -4.
;Carried.
Moved by Mr, Petersen that correspondence be filed
for refe ence. Carried.

Mr. Alfred Fox, Carbon interviewed the Council on the
f a road across LSD's 3 k 6, of Sec. 14- 29 -23 -4 to the
e operated by Mr. Fox.
Mr. E. R Fleetham, representing Costello Equipment Co.,
Calgary, interviewed the Council. It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser
that the Municipal District purchase from Costello Equipment Co.
Ltd., two Mower attachments and two Power - take -off attachments
for use with the Huber Maintainers, the cost of the mower
attachments being $450.00 each, and the cost of the Power -take-
off attachments being $75.00 each; and that the Council now
pass first reading of By -Law No. 99 to provide for the said
purchase of machinery. Carried.
Second reading given to By -Law No 99, and it was
moved bYl Mr. Petersen that same be passed. Carried.
Third reading was given to By -law No. 99, and it was
moved by Mr O +son that same be passed. Carried.
Mr Petersen moved that Mr. Parry be appointed to
investigate the matter of a crossing for Wm. R. White South of
24-30-23k4. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the account of Mr. Peter
Friesin �or gravel ($36.00) supplied to the M D of Stauffer
when Wm. Kinsey was Councillor be refused. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that $19.72 be paid to Wm. Dirks,
Acme, for damages to car on road allowance south of SE- 19 -29 -25
on June 2, 1.948. Carried. (Cheque #3411)
Mr. S C Schmelke gave a report of his investigations
into dam ges to the car of Mr. James Dundas (Page 3: June 14)
It was m ved by Mr. J. W. Olson that Mr. Dundas' claim for dam-
ages to is car be refused. Carried.
Major Steele, reqresenting The Salvation Army, inter-
viewed t e Council, and outlined the activities of his associa-
tion dur lo ng the past year, and made an appeal for a grant from
this Mun cipal District. It was moved t,► Mr. Schmaltz that a
rant of $600.00 be made to the General Fund, and a grant of
200.00 the Building Fund, of The Salvation Army. Carried,
Mr, J. G. Umbrite, Field Supervisor, gave a report on
the activities of the Agricultural Service Board.
Three residents of the Hamlet of Huxley interviewed
the Coun it on a number of matters relating to the Hamlet:
sidewalk , cemetery, nuisance ground, etc. It was moved by
Mr. Schm ltz that recommendation be made to Mr. C. C. Campbell
to meet ith the Huxley Board of Trade and discuss these matters;
also tht t recommendation be made to Mr. Campbell that $100.00
of the a lotment for public works in the Hamlet be spent on
improvem nt to the Huxley cemetery. Carried,
Mr. G. G. King, Asst. Secretary - Treasurer, submitted
the pay- heets for the month of June, and it was moved by Mr.
F. C. Pe ersen that the pay - sheets which have been approved by
Councill rs be now passed for payment. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that an account for the repairs to
the brid a between 19 & 20- 30 -25 -4 be sent to Office of the
District Engineer, Dept. of Public Works, Red Deer, Alta.
Carried.
Mr. Olson moved that no further accounts of The
Child We fare Branch on behalf of Bernice Budesheim be paid
until su h time as the Branch gives us a report of this girl
as requer ted. Carried.

Petersen moved that application be made to the
Public Works to pay for two 4811 culverts, each
to be installed between sections 31 & 32- 31 -22 -4.
Mr, Olson moved a similar application be made for
one 84" culvert, 54' long, to be installed between Sections
16 & 17-28-20-4, Carried,
Mr. Schmaltz moved that a similar application be made
for two 4811 culverts, each 30 feet long, to be installed south
of 5E- 19- 29 -25 -4. Carried.
There was considerable discussion regarding the various
gravelling projects planned for 1948; and it was agreed that
Morgan and Johnson, contractors, follow the following order in
their work: From Div. 3, to Div. 2, to Div. 1, to Div. 5.

It was moiaed by Mr. Ohlhauser that the Public Works
be accepted. Caried.
It was moved by Mr F C Petersen that the offer of
Mr. John J6hnson to purchase Lots 29 -30 & 31, Block 3, Huxley,
for $85 DO be accepted, and that the Council pass the first
reading Df By -Law No. 101 to provide for the said sale Carried
No. 101
adjourn.
