The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill #48 held a p st-poned meeting on Thursday the 13th day of May, 1948, starting at 10.00 a.m. Councillors present: Mr. J. W. Olson, Mr. J. A. Ohlh- auser, Mr. M. Schmaltz, Mr, H. Parry, Mr. F. C. Petersen, Mr. S. Schmelke. and Mr, C. C. Campbell, Mr. Ohlhauser moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be adopted. Toews interviewed the Council and asked the approval of the Council to the admission into Canada of Mrs, Anne Hammermeister and her five children (now in Poland). biro Schmaltz moved that five members of the Mennonite community be asked to sign a guar- antee to assume responsibility for the maintenance and medical care of the said family for five years after their arrival in Canada; and if said guarantee is given, that Council approve the application of the said family to admission into Canada. Car ried Mr. Petersen moved that a telegram be sent to Mr, Jas. McQueen , Department of Public works, asking if the Department will assume the costs of repairing the many large bridges in the Municipal District damaged by the recent f,loodso Carried, Mr., Schmelke moved that Mr, Parry be delegated to investigate the matter of dispposing of the gravel trap in the ragg gravel pit on Sw..18- 31 -26w4, Carried. Page 3. Mr. J A. Ohlhauser moved that the sum of $200.00 ;o the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton, in settlement :count of J. A. Wyndham (deceased), (as per Section 6 (4) )spitals Act; also that the Secretary- Treasurer be 4 to file a claim for this payment with the Executors ;tate of the late J. A Wyndham. Carried. Mr, J. W. Olson moved that Mr. L. A. Cady be advised that, as he had been given no authority to issue relief to Mrs. Rasmussen, the Municipal District accepts no respnnsibility for his accoimt. Carried. The Secretary - Treasurer was instructed to write a letter t Mr. R. M. Norquay, pointing out to him that it is unlawful to cause pollution of the waters of a stream; and that the location of his barn, at present under construction on NW-19-30.,25-4, is so close to the Kneehill Creek that the waters oi the creek will be polluted. The Secretary - Treasurer was instructed to get inform- ation from Mr. Peter Schmidt respecting the residence of his son Elmer Schmidt in City of Calgary. Mr. C. C. Campbell moved that the request of the Prairie Bible Institute for refund of 1945 taxes be tabled until such time as legal advice can be had on this matter. Carried. Mr. J A. Ohlhauser moved that the Ban on the roads of the Municipal District be removed at 9.00 a.m. on May 14th, 1948; and that notice of this be broadcast over Radio Station C. F. C.!N, Carried, The Secretary- Treasurer was instructed to inform the Division Engineer, Canadian National Railways, Calgary, that the Municipal. District will build the road serving the Equity elev- ators f03 the following amounts: Grading and Earth -work $ 150.00 Gravelling $ 300.00 Mr. Schmaltz moved that correspondence be now filed for reference. Carried. Mr. J. W. Olson moved that payment of $20.00 be made to Mr. Donald L. Smith, Three Hills, for two aeroplane flights from Three Hills to Sunnyslope with municipal employees and tools. Carried. Moved by Mr. M. Schmaltz that the Reeve and Secretary- Treasurer be given authority to sign an agreement with the Canadian Utilities Limited for the supplying of street lights to the H let of Sunnyslope. (maximum of five street lights). Carried. Mr. C. C. Campbell moved that approval be given to the application of Mr. Carl A Knudsen for the admissioO into Canada of a Danish immigrant. Carried. Mr. M Schmaltz moved that Mr. J. G. Umbrite be appointed Fire Guardian of the Municipal District in 1948. (reference Page 3: Minutes of April 8th, 1948). Carried. Mr. M. Schmaltz moved that a letter be addressed to the Depa tment of Public Works, Edmonton, recommending that the maintenance of Highway #21 (from Beiseker north) be put under the control and jurisdiction of the Office of the District engineer, Red Deer, Alberta. Mr. Parry moved that the Department of Public Works be notified that the Bridge between Sections 20 & 21- 31 -24 -4 has been washed out by recent floods. Carried. Mr. Petersen moved that application be made to the Department of Public Works for repairs to be made to the "Ghost P ne Bridge ", located south of Sec. 5.32 -22 »4. Carried. Mr. Parry moved that Department of Public Works be 'informed hat the Bridge located between Sections 23 & 26-31-26-4 ;Wes washe out in recent floods. Carried. There was considerable discussion regarding the routes to be taken-by the two road camps, and it was moved by Mr. J. A. Ohlhauser that the South outfit follow the following program. First, fill in main washouts, then work in Div. 3; to Div. 1, to Div. 2, to Div. 4. Carried. Moved by 1:Ire C. C. Campbell that the North outfit follow the following program. First fill in main wash -cuts, then complete the 1947 work in Div. 6, plus two miles of new grading; then to Divisions 4, 5 and 7. Carried* factory t given aut said job. Moved by 11r. Ohlhauser moved that the Secretary- Treasurer be instructed to make applications for grants to be earned under the "Three -Way" plan at the following locations- to bring' tion for for a Rr 1. Mr. S. C. Schmelke moved that an application be made for an outright government grant of $3,000.00 for the "Old Town Line ". Carried. The Secretary - Treasurer was instructed to report to Ioir. F. B Connors, District Engineer, Red Deer, Alberta, that damage has been caused by recent floods to bridges at the following locations. 1. Morrin River Hill 2. North of 52- 3- 31 -22 -4 (Ghost Pine Creek at Carneyts) 3. South of 5-32 -22 -4 (Ghost Pine Creek at Stewartts) 4. South of SW- 25- 33 -25 -4 (Three Hills Creek at Sandbergts) 5. South of 17- 33 -26 -4 (Kneehill Creek at Doeringts) 6. East of 13 -30 -26-4 (Lonepine Creek at Lawrencets 7. South of 16- 33 -23 -4 (Pigeon Bridge on tributary of Ghost Pine creek) 8.
