Mr. Ohlhauser moved that the application of Mr.
Mortimer for an Old Age Pension be approved, Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that a Ban on the roads of the
Municipal District be re- imposed when Ban is re-Imposed by the
Highway Traffic Board on Highways No. 9 and No. 21; and that
the Reeve and Secretary- Treasurer be authorized to issue permits
for half,the rated capacity of the truck involved to:

The Secretary. - Treasurer was instructed to notify the
P. detachments of any permits so issued, also, the
»Treasurer was instructed to have notice of the re.
n of the Ban on the roads of the Municipal District
over Radio Station C F C N.
It was agreed that the lifting or cessation of the
Ban on t e roads of the Municipal District be left to the
discreti n of the Reeve and the Secretary - Treasurer*
Mr. Ohlhauser moved that the application of Paget
Bros. for a License to operate an implement agency in Hamlet
'of Swalw ll be approved. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the letter from Edwin Miller,
�J. R. Bo ch, B. Chierchio, John Crawford and A. B. McCune,
f,protesti g the pollution of the waters of Rosebud Creek by
manure b ing placed in the creek by Hutterite Colony, be
forwarde to the municipal District of Mountainview. Carried,
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the Calgary General Hospital
�ibe inforned that Mr. Elmer Schmidt is a resident of City of
Calgary, and that this Municipal District disclaims responsibility
1lfor his hospitalization, Carried.
Mr. Parry moved that the application of Mr. R. W.
;;Milne for a License to operate a farm machinery agency at the
;'Hamlet of Sunnyslope be approved. Carried.
d Mr. Ohlhauser moved that a grant of $150.00 be paid
to The Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Robertson, Anderson & Co.
of Red Deer, Alberta, be appointed Auditors for 1948; and
that the audit fee for 1948 be $650.00 Carried.

At 12.20 p.m. the Council adjourned for lunch, and
resumed business at 1.30 p.m.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr. Parry be elected Reeve
for 1948 Carried,
Mr. Schmelke moved that Mr. Schmaltz be elected
Deputy Reeve for first six months of 1948. Carried.
Mr. Ohlhauser moved that Mr. C. J. Christie be
appointed Assessor for 1948. Carried.
Mr. Parry moved that Dr. E. A. Russell be appointed
Medical Health Officer, replacing Dr. H. J. Lambert, whose
resignation is hereby accepted. Carried.
Mr. J. W. Olson moved that the following members

Mr. Ohlhauser moved that Mr. Schmaltz and Mr. Petersen
ited as delegates to the Agricultural Service Board Con -

,awley be appointed as alternate delegates. Carried.
Mr. Campbell moved that Mr. J. G. Umbrite be appointed
Field Supervisor of this Municipal District for 1948; and that
he be paid a salary of $2,200.00 per year, and 10¢ per mile
for the use of his car in carrying out his duties. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the Secretary - Treasurer be
instructed to conduct the banking business of the Municipal
District with the Three Hills Branch of the Royal Bank of
Canada a d with the Three Hills Branch of the Treasury Branches
of the P ovince of Alberta, also that Mr. Hugh Parry as Reeve,
and A. J4 Purvis as Secretary - Treasurer be authorized to sign,
on behalT of the Municipal District, all cheques, notes,
vouchers and other documents regVired in transacting the said
banking business. Car ried.
A letter from A. F. Sigmund, Carbon, and addressed
to Mr. Parry, and lodging a complaint on the matter of snow-
plowing f roads, was read to the Council.
Morgan and Johnson, gravel contractors from Carstairs,
interviewed the Council.
Aldo Gallelli, gravel contractor from Calgary, inter-
viewed the Council.

The Secretary - Treasurer read the Requisitions submitted
'by the various School Divisions, School Districts and Hospital
Districts, and it was moved by Mr. Campbell that same be accepted.
Carried.

j(16) mills for Municipal Purposes in 1948 be authorized. Carried.
First reading given to By -Law No. 95, and it was moved
by Mr. Schmelke that same be passed. Carried.
Second reading given to By -Law No. 95, and it was moved
by Mr. 4 lha user that same be passed. Carried.
Third reading given to By -Law No. 95, and it was moved

It was moved by Mr. C. C. Campbell that the pay - sheets
now approved by the Councillor concerned, be passed for payment.

It was moved by Mr. M. Schmaltz that the Statement
of Public Works, presented by Mr. King, be accepted. Carried*
Mr, Olson moved that payment for any snow - shovelling
`be refused unless same was especially authorized by the Councillor
concerned. Carried,

The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill No. 48
resumed business at 10.00 a.m. on Friday the 9th day of April,
1948*
�) Councillors present: J. W. Olson, J. A. Ohlhauser,
M. Schmaltz, H. Parry, F. C. Petersen, S. C. Schmelke, and
C. C. Campbell.
Mr, Schmaltz moved that the following salaries for
'the office staff be paid in 1948: A. J. Purvis, Secretary.
;Treasurer $21800.00, C. J. Christie and G. G. King, Assistants
;$2,500.00 each. Carried.
�i ,These salaries were accepted, with thanks, by the
employees concerned.
Wm. Howell and H. J. Gimbel, foremen, were present
and were interviewed by the Council.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Wm. Howell be engaged as
foreman of the "North" camp, and H. J. Gimbel be engaged as
foreman of the "South" camp for 1948, and that they each be
paid $250.00 per month , effective April 1st, 1948, with an
annual holiday of two weeks with pay; also that they be paid
8¢ per mile for the use of their car or truck in carrying out
their du es. Carried. Wm. Howell and H. J. Gimbel accepted
employment on these conditions.
It was moved by Mr. Olson that J. A. Ohlhauser
be appointed Supervisor of the South camp, and F. C. Petersen
be appointed Supervisor of the North camp. Carried.
,Mr. Ohlhauser moved that an assistant foreman be
appointed for each of the two camps, and that the assistant
foremen a paid $1.10 per hour; that former employees of
the Muni ipal District be paid $1.00 per hour; that new
employee be paid 85¢ per hour for first 200 hours, and then,
if satis.actory, $1.00 per hour; that cooks be paid $140.00
per month. Carried.

to operate the "AD-3" Allis.-Chalmers Motor Grader in the Carbon

engaged t operate the new 11212" Caterpillar Motor Grader in
the Acme krea. Carried.
Moved by F. C. Petersen that Paul Elvin be engaged to
operate the "No. 12" Caterpillar Motor Grader in the Three Hills
area. Cwied,
Mr. Schmaltz moved that application be made to the
J Provincial Government for a grant of $20,000 to be earned on the
"50-50" basis. Carried.

$1.00 per hour (no mileage), and that two checkers be put on
each job, Carried,
'Mr. Ohlhauser moved that Taxes levied in 1947 on
property of Prairie Bible Institute in the amount of $1 878.84
be cancelled. Carried. (Decision of Alberta Assessment Comm.)

ntractors, be engaged for the 1948 gravel Work in this
District; and the Secretary- Treasizer be instructed to
contract with this firms providing for Government rates
r hauling, and other charges as per their quotations
in minutes of March 13th, 1948, Carried*
The Council reviewed the st$tus of taxes on various
parcels of lands under Tax Recovery Act proceedings, viz.:
NW.. 1728 -21 -4: Mr. Schmaltz moved that a letter
be sent to John Peck, asking him to make an accounting of his
1947 cro , and lease of the above land for 1947; this to be
done bef re next meeting of the Council* Carried,
NW.- 12•.33- 22..4• Mr. Schmelke moved that a letter be
sent to , L. rostiii asking hime to pay the balance of $50.00

due on s contract for the above land; this payment to be made
before 15th 1948, failing which contract will be cancelled
