COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON JUNE 10. 19470 ( The Council regular meeting a.m. Pace 1% of the Municipal District of Kneehill #48 on Tuesday, June 10th7 1947, starting at Councillors present: J. W. O1son,,J. A. Ohlhauser,, M. Schmaltz,_,H. Parry, N. C. Petersen, S. C. Schmelke and C. C. Campbell. Mr. Campbell moved that the minutes of the previous meeting held on May 12th and 13th, 1947, be adopted. Carried. The Secretary - Treasurer submitted the Financial Statement for the month of May, 1947. Carried. f 'I Mr. Ohlhauser gave a report on his efforts on behalf of Mr. Irvine Price, a returned soldier, and his wife, Jane Price, oth of Carbon, Alberta. His report shows that the wife is a "war- bride" from England; that she refuses to live with he husband, who is now employed on the farm of Arthur Sigmund of Carbon, Alberta, and that the wife wantsdo, return 4o, England, Mr. Irvine Price and Mr. Arthur Sigmund were present and interviewed the Council on the above matter. It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that J. A Ohlhauser, H. Parry and A. J. Purvis be appointed as a Committee to deal with this matter, and report to the next meeting of the Council. Carried, Mr. F. C Petersen reported to the Council that Mrs. Steve Benusic of Ghost Pine Creek, is destitute and in need of assista ce. Mr. F. C. Petersen moved that an allowance of $10.00 per mon h relief be granted Mrs. Benusic, starting on June 1st, 1947. tarried. Mr. H L Toews and Mr. Solomon Boese, both of Swalwell, Alberta$ interviewed the Council, and requested the Council to take me cures to improve the road at the Linden Cheese factory, (betwee Sections 20 and 297 Tp. 30, Rge„ 25). The Committee was informed that the Council would inspect the said road today after lunch. Mr. Coker, representing Cruikshank Road Machinery Co. interviewed the Council. B Atkins re* Acct. $2,370.00 it was moved by Mr. Schmelke that the account of kips, Surveyor, for $2,370.00 be paid, and that the lls Municipal Hospital District be rendered an account r share of the surveyor's fees. Carried. I It was moved by Mr. Campbell that the application of Os4 Swenson for a Hawker's and Peddler's License be approve by the Council. Carried. It was moved by Mr. Petersen that the application of R. C. Milligen for an Automobile Dealer's License be approved, Carried. I It was moved by Mr. Schmelke that the application of Haldon Guard to sell sporting goods at Wimborne be approved. Carried M Allowance It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the report of the Inspector of Mothers' Allowance Branch on Mrs. Elizabeth Bap - tist bey accepted, and that recommendation be made to the Superin endent that an allowance of $35.00 per month be continued, Carried, M. Allowance It was moved by Mr. C C. Campbell that the report of the Inspector of Mothers' Allowance Branch on Mrs. Georgina Miller be accepted, and that recommendation be made to the Superintendent that an allowance of $30.00 per month be con- tinued, Carried, M. kllowance It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the report of the Inspector of Mothers' Allowance Branch on Mrs. Lydia Adam- son be accepted, and recommendation made to the Superintendent that an allowance of $35,00 per month be continued, Carried. I At 12.05 it was moved by Mr. Petersen that Council adjourn for lunch. Carried. After lunch the Council drove to the Linden Cheese Factory, and inspected the road at the said location.(between Sectionsl 20 and 29, Tp. 30, Rge. 25, West 4 M.) The Council then returned to the Municipal Office, and resumed business at 3.00 p.m, Mr. A. E MacKay, representing Armco Drainage and Metal Prloducts Limited, interviewed the Council. s Mr. A. C. Sylvest interviewed the Council. Mr, Ohlhauser moved that the Council endorse the Scheme for the superannuation of Municipal Office employees and that the Reeve and Secretary - Treasurer be authorized to sign the agreement Carried. Mr. J. A. Ohlhauser was instructed to investigate the hospital account of Miss Viola Heyd with the Royal Alex- andra Hospital, and to report to the next meeting of the Council. Mr. Peteresen moved that Mr. Harold E. Crowle, Administrator of the Estate of the late Dr. A. J. Weart be informe, that the accounts found in Dr. Weartts note -book are no the responsi►,bility of this Municipal District, Carried. Mr. Olson moved that the account of the Drumheller Municipa Hospital District #3 for $38.56 for operation of Isolation Hospital be paid, Carried. Mr. Schmelke moved that Mr. C. C. Campbell be instructed to investigate the application of Jack Lynch for the lease of road allowance on the west and north sides of Sec. 34- 33 -22 -4 } O 1117fo$% and report to next meeting of the Council, Carried, Mr. Ohlhauser moved that application be made to the Dept. of Public Works for a special grant of $1,000.00 to be errried. ed on the 50-50 basis on the Trochu East ferry road, Mr. Ohlhauser also moved that application be madeifor the extension of the District Highway to the Trochu East ferry, Carried. An application from Herbert C Currie of Ghost Pine Creek, Alberta, to buy SE- 22- 30 -22 -4 for $200.00 was read. The application was accompanied by deposit of $20.00 It was moved by Mr. C. C. Campbell that this appli- cation a accepted, and that the Council proceed to pass a By -Law o provide for the sale of SE- 22- 30 -22 -4 to Herbert C. Currie or $200,00 cash, Carried. Mr. Campbell moved that first reading of By -Law No. 76 i e passed. Carried. Mr. Ohlhauser moved that second reading of By -Law No. 76 be passed. Carried. An application from Albert I. McGougan of Trochu, Alberta, to purchase N�- 28- 32 -22 -4 for $1,000.00 was read. The application was accompanied by cheque for $1,000.00 Mr. Campbell moved that this application be accepted and than the Council proceed to pass a By -Law to provide for sale of *-28-32-22-4 to Albert I. C. Campbell moved that first reading of By -Law No. 77 be passed. Carried. Mr. Petersen moved that second reading of By -Law No. 77 be passed. Carried. Mr. Olson moved that the delegates to the 1947 conven- tion of the A. A. M D. A. T. be the Reeve, the Secretary- Treasurer and Assistants, and that each delegate be paid $25.00 expense allowance. Carried. Mr. Petersen moved that the account of Mr. J. P. Fer- guson for $6.00 legal fees be paid. Carried. Mr. J A. Ohlhauser moved that Chas. Guynn be appointed Pound -k I eper to operate a pound at SW- 25- 30- 23..4. Carried. At 6.15 p.m. it was moved by Mr. Campbell that the Council {adjourn for supper. Carried. . ...... . The Council resumed business at 7.45 p.m. Mr. F. C. Petersen, Mr H. J. Gimbel and Mr. G G. King, the Committee appointed to make arrangements for the building of a machine shop submitted a report and plan of the proposed building. Mr. Connor Edwards and Mr. F. 0 Nelson interviewed the Counciljregarding the gravelling of the road from NW corner of Section33- 31 -23 -4 six miles south, and from the NW corner of Sectioni32,- 30 -23 -4 one mile south. They stated that the rate - payers in that area are willing to donate $1,000 to $1,200 to the gravelling of the said road on the one -third - two- thirds plan. to the one -thil roads* Moved by Mr. Schmelke moved that application be made artment of Public Works for grants to be earned on the / two - thirds scheme for the gravelling of the following Six miles south of NW Corner 33- 31 -;3� $1 200 One mile south of NW Corner 32 -30 -2, , Swalwell West 700 West of Sections 30 & 31- 31 -24 -4 150 Carried. I Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr Ohlhauser and Lair. King be appointed as a Committee to review the insurance policies held bythe Municipal District and submit a report at a later meeting,. Carried. Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr. Olson be appointed a CommittL to investigate the building of a dam on the farm of A. A. Anderson (SW- 25- 28- 21 -4). Carried. Mr. Campbell informed the Council that he would -�2 -� direct the building of the sub -way on the road across SE -29 -33 as soon as building materials are available, and requested that G>enn H. Farrow be informed accordingly. Mr. Petersen moved that application be made to the Dept. of Public Works to furnish 120 feet of 48 inch metal culvert to replace the bridge at the Linden Cheese Factory (Between Sections 20 and 29, Tp. 30, Rge. 25). Carried. L1r. 01_son moved that Mr. Gideon Tinlin be asked for what sum he will sell 10 acres of gravel -pit on SE- 21- 29 -21 -4 and a Toadway to the said location; or what sum would be charged for le6se of the said gravel -pit. Gravel Jose COUNUIL MEETING HELD JUNE 10th. 1947. Page Z_a_ It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that Mr. C. C. Campbell be authorized to sell the old centre -dump gravel boxes of the Ghost Pine M. D. at $15.00 each. Carried. It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the Municipal District secure an undertaking from Ben Jose, of Trochu, Alta. that he will be responsible for all costs incurred by, or on behalf of Johannes Jose in the St. Paul's Lutheran Old Folks' and Childrents Home of Melville, Sask., and upon this under- taking being signed and completed, the Municipal District guarantees the maintenance account of Johannes Jose in the said Home. Carried. Snow-Ploy► It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that an order be placed with the Union Tractor and Equipment Co.
