gular meeting on Tuesday October 9th, 1945. The Reeve
nicipal District, Mr. Hugh Parry, presided, and the

Y'r. Petersen moved that the financial statement be
and accepted. Carried.
Mr. 'aim. Hewlett, of the Dept of municipal affairs,
intervie ed the Council on the matter of arranging a settlement
(1) of a account of 5;51446.00 to the Central Alberta Sanatorium,
(2) of t e outstanding indebtedness of the Municipal District
to the P ovincial Government for Agricultural Relief advances
listed a $17,090.84 in the 1944 Financial Statement
11r. Parry moved that an offer of X3,000.00 be made
as settl ment of the Central Alberta Sanatorium account. Mr
Hewlett tated that he would recommend to the Government that
this off r be accepted. Mr Schmaltz moved that authorization
be given for the issuing of a cheque for $3,000.00 to pay this 1 ��
account Carried.
Mr. Hewlett agreed to accept $82000.00 as settlemant of
of the o tstanding indebtedness of the Municipal District for
Agricult ral Relief Advances. Mr. Cam p bell moved that this offer
of settl went be accepted, and paymentauthorized. accordingly. T ��
Carried.
Char it Two nuns representing the Sisters of our Lady of T V
y nterviewed the Council, and made an appeal for a grant
to their organization. Mr. Schmaltz moved that a grant of X100 00
be made, and that the Council proceed to pass a By-Law to
provide or the same. Carried.

The statements prepared by the Auditor, and for the
period Jan. 1st, 1945 to Aug. 31, 1945, were presented for
consideration. It was moved by Mr. Olson that the said statements
be accepted and approved. Carried.
mr. McArthur and Pars. Kennedy interviewed the Council
regarding the Huxley Cemetery. There was considerable discussion
regarding various means of marking the plots in the cemetery
It was moved by her. Schmaltz that Mr. Campbell be appointed a
Committee to investigate the various methods of marking, and
report on sate at a later meeting of the Council. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that all foremen and patrol -men be
circulari ed and instructed to see that all accounts are signed
for when odds are received Carried.
Mr. Petersen moved that the following accounts be passed

Mr. Schmaltz moved that accounts be rendered to the
organizations for road work performed by the crews of
ipal District. ,71leatland School,Division, Canadian
Railways, Canadian Pacific Railway Co., Village of
d the Village of Carbon, the said work being shown on
heets for the month of September, 1945 Carried.
Mr. Arthur Vasseur interviewed the Council on the
matter o the location of the fence on the west side of the
W -6 -32- 2 -4 After some discussion it was moved by Mr. Schmaltz
that the Reeve, Mr. Petersen and Mr. Howell (road foreman) be
appointe to investi5gte the matter Carried.
Major Buckley, representing The Salvation Army,
intervie ed the Council, and made an appeal for a grant to The T,S%
alvatio Army. 14r Schmaltz moved that a grant of 0600 00 be
made, an the necessary By -Law be prepared. Carried.
The Secretary- Treasurer read an Order, signed by
Judge McDonald, directing this Municipal District to pay to
Ernest 14 lker, farmer, Olds, Alberta, the sum of $824 36 this 14°
amount rEipresents the surplus from the sale of 52-32 -32 -2684
It was moved by Mr. Schmelke that this order be complied with,
and the layment authorized Carried.
The Secretary - Treasurer read a letter signed by
E Scheu er, John R Proctor and Bennett B. Gaetz, gasoline
retailerE of the Hamlet of Torrington, requesting the Council
to refus their approval to the issuing of any further licenses
for the ietail sale of gasoline in the Hamlet of Torrington
The Secr tary Treasurer was instructed to reply, stating that
no new a plications have been made at this date, and in the
event th t new applications are made, the matter will receive
due cons deration.
A letter from Cpl. 11. A Stewart was read, in which
.tai: exem tion under The Soldiers' Relief Act was asked for
NW-35-31-23-4 for the year 1945. It was moved by Reeve Parry
that thie request be granted, and tax exemption for the year `
1945 gra ted on N'�- 35- 31-23 -4/ Carried.
Mr. Fetroe, of Swalwell, Alta interviewed the Council
on the m tter of cheque No. T -769 for :;"22.75, being payment for
455 yard of gravel L 5§' per yard After some discussion it was
moved th t the matter be tabled and be given consideration at the
next mee ing of the Council Carried.

Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr. Olson be appointed to
investig to the application of 14rs. Sarah Mayne, of Drumheller, t.
for an O d Age Pension. Carried.
Mr. Parry moved that the 1945 fee to the Alberta
Associat on of Municipal Districts for $120 00 be paid. Carried. 7=8
Mr Schmaltz moved that each member of the Council
be appoi ted as a delegate, and the members of the office staff
be invit d as visitors, to the 1945 convention of the A A M D.

I114r. Olson moved that the correspondence be filed for
future reference Carried.
The Secretary- Treasurer read a petition signed by the
resident of the area All of Tp 33, Rge, 26 ;Test 4 IA., and
the North one -third of Tp. 32, Rge. 26, 6��est R ; the said
petition being addressed to the Minister of Public Health,
and requesting that the said area be added to the Olds !Municipal
Hospital District It was moved by Mr Schmelke that this
petition receive the approval of the Council Carried.
Mr. Petersen and Mr. Campbell reported that they had
investigated the dispute between Emil Ziegler of Trochu, and
Merle iin erson, of Carbon, in the matter of damages caused
by animals of Anderson trespassing ofx lands of Ziegler. They
recommen that damages of $50 00 be allowed to Emil Ziegler,
and that this award be deducted from the sum of :202 00 paid
by 114r. Merle Anderson to the pound - keeper, and that the balance
of $152 CO be refunded to Mr Anderson. This recommendation
was acce ted by the Council, and payments accordingly authorized.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the Secretary- Treasurer be
instructed to proceed with a "'ax Sale under The Tax Recovery Act
and to offer for sale all lands on which the arrears of taxes are
greater then 10% of the assessment, the said sale to be held in
the IYiuni ipal Office, Three Hills, on December 10th, 1945, at
2.00 p.m. Carried.
MX. Parry and I:ir. Schmelke reported that they had
investig ted the dispute between David Zeh and John Sept, in
the matter of damages caused by live -stock belonging to John^.
Sept trespassing on lands owned by David Zeh They recomnand
that dam gees of ';:10.00 be awarded to David Zeh, less $2 00 to
cover cost of investigation, and that this award be deducted
from the sum of ;160.00 paid by John Sept to the pound - keeper,
that a fie of $2.00 be charged John Sept to cover cost of the
investigation, and the balance of $148.00 be refunded to him
This recommendation was accepted and approved by the Council,
and pays °ants accordingly authorized.
Mr. J 1.7. Olson reported that he had investigated
the matter of the maintenance of 1.1rs. Fleming, who is now
being to ged with Mrs. Campbell of Drumheller, Llta. kir Olson
reported that Mrs. Fleming is comfortable in her present
location, that Firs. Campbell will lodge her for . 40.00 per
month, arid that he recomriemds that the present arrangemBnts be
continue . Carried

Mr. Campbell reported that he had investigated the
complaint made by the Soldier Settlement Board re prding
damage tc the fence and piles of debris left on N_:- 36- 34 -22 -4
by the eriployees of this Municipal District at the time when
the road on the north side of this land was graded lvfr. Camp-
bell rec mmends the payment of x :20.00 damages This recommendation
was accepted by the Council, and payment accordingly authorized
Ir. Schmaltz moved, that in accordance with a recommend-
ation fr m the Auditor, the following cheques be cancelled

The staff was instructed to get further information
regarding the issuing of license to the Linden Home, Swalwell,
especially on the matter of the responsibility of the home to
accept af inmates any indigent aged persons who need shelter
and accomodation.
Mr Campbell moved that the Council adjourn. Carried.
