The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill ##48 held
a regular meeting on Aug. 13, 1945, starting at 10.00 a.m.
Councillors present: J W. Olson, J A Ohlhauser,
M. Schmaltz, Hugh Parry (Reeve), F. C. Petersen, S. C. Schmelke,
and C. C. Campbell
It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that the minutes of the
meeting of the Council held on July 9th, 1945, be approved. Carried.

Mr. Olson moved that the financial statement for July, 1945
be approved. Carried.
Bernardo Bros of Drumheller, Alta.. interviewed the Council
on the mat';er of a road diversion through the NW- 7 »28- :0,0 -4.
after considerable discussion it was moved by Cdr. Schmaltz that
a survey of a road diversion at this location be authorized
Carried.
A C Staite and Alfred Wulff, operators of the Motor
Graders, were present,and discussed with the Council the matter of
organization of work in the future It was moved by Ivir
Petersen that A. C. Staite, operator of the Austin Western M -99
Motor Grader be stationed at Trochu, and operate the mmehine in
Divisions 5, 6 and 7; that Alfred Wulff, operator of the Caterpillar
No. 11 Motor Grader be furnished with Bunk -car, and operate the
machine in Divisions 1 and 2, and that Ernest 'y`'ilson, operator
of the Austin .western 77 Motor Grader, operate his machine in
Division 3 and 4. Carried.
Constable Wall, R. C. R�. P. was present, and reported to
the Council the result of his investigations into the affairs of
the Bruneski family of Lousana, Alta His report covered the
following points that Christof Bruneski has deserted his wife
and family, and is now living in the Horse Show Lake District,
near Innisfail, Alta. and is employed on the farm of Norman Smith,
that he is willing to support the two oldest children now living
with the mother, providing they are taken from the custody of the
mother, and lodged with his eldest daughter, that he refuses to
support his wife and the younger children; that, in the opinion
of the Police a charge of non- oupport would probably result in
a conviction, and that Mrs. Bruneski has informed the Police that
she is willing to give testimony in court.

It was moved by Mr
Parry that a grant of X25.00 be made
to the "Busy Bee Society"
of Sunnyslope, the said grant to be
made for the improvement of a
play- ground in the Hamlet of
Sunnyslope. Carried.
Mr Schmelke moved that letter be sent to the Deputy
Minister of municipal Affairs, informing him that the road
on the west side of 712- 18- 32 -25 -4 will be graded and improved
during 1945. Carried
Fir. Petersen moved that the letter from F. B. Hill,
regarding the contract between E. G. Cullum and the Municipal
District, be acknowledged, that fir Cullum be informed that
the extra clause, which he wished to be added to the contract,
viz.* "The Municipal District shall clear all sand and gravel
to a depth of twelve feet as work progresses in the pit ",
cannot be added to the contract, as the seam of gravel is
not 12 feet in depth; that Mr. Cullum be informed that the
seam of gravel is exhausted, and that he be paid for the gravel
taken by the Municipal District at the rate of 5� per yard

fir. Ohlhauser that the Heuther- Reiswig road will be
gravelled during the summer of 1945, and instructed th Secretary -
Treasurer to notify the Wheatland School Division accordingly.
Secretary- Treasurer was instructed to make application
for a grant from the Provincial Government in the gravelling of
this road.
Mr. Ohlhauser moved that the Giant V -type Snow -blow
with 9 ft 2 in. cutting width, price X1,0 76.00 be ordered
from Canada Ingot Iron Co. Carried.
Mr. S. C. Schmelke was instructed to interview 11r Gerald
N Smith, tenant of the Canada Life Assurance Co. on NE- 32- 32 -25 -4
regarding the cheque of $13 68 payable to the Municipal District
of Stauffer for equalization payment from Canadian Wheat Hoard.
Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the application of Mrs. Annie
Fricke for re- instatement of Old Age Pension be tabled, and
that an investigation be made by the staff regarding same

Mr. Parry reported on t'ne investigation conducted by
him and lir Schmaltz into the household of Carl Schmaltz of
Beiseker. He reconrnended that repairs be made to property,
and becommended that Mr. Schmaltz be appointed to see that this
is carried out.
Air. Parry gave a report on the organization meeting
of the Provisional Board of the Three Hills Municipal Hospital
District.
Hr Olson nominated C. C. Crowley, of Drumheller, Alta.
to "The Agricultural Service Board", and Mr. Schmelke nominated
Thos. Jones, of Trochu, to the said Board
Mr Schmaltz reported that he made an investigation into
the matter of damages to property of Gehring Bros. by an
astray horse owned by Gottfred Kimmell of Sunnyslope. He
recomaended that Gehring Bros. be paid 68.00 damages, and that
the deposit of y'2 00 paid by them be refunded. This recommend-
ation was accepted, and payment accordingly authorized.
Secretary - Treasurer read the report of C J. Christie
regarding Mothers' Allowance for Mrs. Gertrude Davis It was
moved by Mr Schmaltz that report be accepted, and recomlendation
made to the Department that allowance of N15.00 per month be
continued. Carried.
At 2 00 p m the Council met as a Court of Revision.
One appeal was condidered' J W McCulloch's appeal against
the levy of $60.00 Business tax on the Wholesale Oil Business
operated by him in Legal Sub- division 3, See. 19, Tp 29,
Rge. 25, %'lest 4 14
Tyr. Schmaltz moved that this assessment be confirmed,
and the appeal be not allowed. Carried.
Secretary - Treasurer was instructed to make application

Truck Third reading was given to By -Law No. 34 (A By -Law to
By -Law provide for the purchase of a 1 ton Ford Truck from Canadian
Motors Ltd. for $1,346 68) Mr Petersen moved that the third
reading of By -Law No 34 be approved. Carried.
Snow Plow Third reading was given to By -Law No. 35 (A By -Law to
By-Law provide for the purchase of a Snow -Plow iLttachment for an
Austin iestern 11 -99 Motor Grader from Canada. Ingot Iron Co. Ltd.
for $1,076.00). Mr. Ohlhauser moved that the third reading of
By -Law 1,1o. 35 be approved. Carried.
Klamzuski Third reading was given to By -Law No 36 (A By -Law to
provide for Leasing of E1- 25-28 -20 -4 to Walter Ilamzuski for the
year 1945 for $50.00). Mr. Olson moved that the third reading of
By -Law No. 36 be approved. Carried.
Huxley Mr. Campbell and. Mr. King reported on their investigation
made in the Hamlet of Huxley. fir. Campbell reported that there
are certain properties in the Hamlet, now under tine control of
the Municipal District by Tax Recovery Act proceedings, which
can besold. He recomriended that the following properties be
sold
Good Lot 28, Block 4, Hamlet of Huxley to C. T. Good for °350.00.
$110.00 in cash, and the payment of X20.00 per month for 12 months,
no interest
Kepp Lots 23 and 24, Block 5, Hamlet of Huxley, to Joseph Kepp for
$20.00 cash.
McCook Lot 26, Block 4, Hamlet of Huxley, to Eric McCook for 10 00
cash
Mr. Campbell moved that the necessary By -Laws to provide
for the sale of these properties be prepared Carried.
Good First reading was given to By -Law No. 37 (A By -Law to
provide for the sale of Lot 28, Block 4, Hamlet of Huxley, to
C T Good for �i350 00) Mr Campbell moved that the first
reading of ?y -Law No. 37 be approved. Carried.
Second reading was given to By -Law No. 37. Mr. Ohlhauser
moved that the second reading of By -Law No 37 be approved

Kepp First reading was given to By -Law No. 38. (A By -Law to
provide for the sale of Lots 23 and 24, Block 5, Hamlet of
Huxley, to Joseph Kepp for 8,;20 00) Mr. Ohlhauser moved that
the first reading of By -Law No 38 be approved Carried
Second reading was given to By -Law No. 38. 11r. Schmelke
moved that the second reading of By -Law No 38 be approved.
Carried.
McCook First reading was given to By -Law No. 39 (A By -Law to
provide for the sale of Lot 26, Block 4, Hamlet of Huxley, to
Eric McCook for °x'10.00) . Aar. Schmaltz moved that the first
reading of By -Law No. 39 be approved. Carried.
Second reading was given to By -Late No 39 1-4r Petersen
moved that the second reading of By -Law No. 39 be approved.
Carried.
McCoy Mr Schmaltz moved that the balance of 999 37, due
to W J McCoy and Sons for 1944 gravel work, be paid. Carried.
Mr. King was instructed to write to Gottlieb Berreth,
pound - keeper, for a report re disposal of impounded animals

The recomlenda.tion for public works to be undertaken in
Divisions 1, 3, 4 and 5 were read, and it was moved by Mr Schmaltz
that same be approved. Carried.
Mr Schmaltz moved that, effective on Sept. 1st, 1945,
the relief allowance for Mrs Agnes Rasmussen be reduced to
$10.00 per month. Carried.
Mr Campbell moved that enquiry be made into the purchase
of steel posts to mark the plots in the Huxley Cemetery. Carried
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the Soldier Settlement be informed
that the position of the Municipal District regarding the moving
of a fence on the north side of N2- 36- 34 -22 -4 during work on
the road is unchanged for that given in previous communications.

The Secretary- Treasurer read an application from the
Linden Home, Swalwell, for a license to operate a home for aged
and infirm persons. It was moved by Mr. Schmaltz that this
application be tabled until later date. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Robert Kerns of Acme be appointed
Weed Inspector, and that he be paid 80V per hour, and 109 per
mile for the use of his car. Carried.
Mr. Petersen moved that Council do now adjourn. Carried.
