COUNCIL MEETING HELD JANUARY 8th, 1945

The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill T278
held a regular meeting on 11onday the 8th day of January
1945. Air. Hugh Parry, Peeve, presided The meeting
was called to order at 10 00 a.m.
Councillors present Mr. Olson, I.I.r. Ohlhauser, Mr.
Schmaltz, Mr Parry (Reeve), I.ir Petersen and Mr. Camp-
bell.
Moved by Per. Schmaltz that the minutes of the last
meeting (Dec. 11th, 1944) be adopted. Carried
Mr. Parry reported on his investigations into the
matter of damages of 1;55.00 being claimed by John Sept
for the trespassing of horses owned by R. Zeh. Mr.
Parry recommends that an award of .1f20.00 be made to
John Sept Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that this recommendation
be ratified by the Council, and that the Secretary
Treasurer be instructed to take steps to enforce payment
of said award. Carried.
Mr Ohlhauser moved that the financial statement for
December, 1944, be approved Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Mr. Ohlhauser have an inventory
of the tools in the Sotath camp taken, and placed on file
in the office. Carried
Mr. Ohlhauser moved that Mr Campbell be instructed
to take a similar inventory of the tools in the
North camp. Carried.
lir C. J. Christie, Asst. Secreatry Treasurer, submitted
the accounts for consideration.
It was moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that the account of
Fairbank Morse for x,41.95 for heavy duty socket wrench
set be paid. Carried
Muir. Campbell moved that the following accounts be

Mr. Chas Wyndham of Grainger interviewed the Council
on the matter of the sale of NE- 29- 34 -22 -4.
Committee reported re purchase of tractor, and reported
that they recommend the purchase of an RD -8 tractor,
if same is considered suitable after examination
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the committee continue its
work with the support of the Council. Carried.
Letter from Drumheller Post -War Reconstruction Committee
read. Moved by Mr. Schmaltz that Mr. Campbell and Mr.
Olson be appointed to represent that part of this M. D.
which lies within the Drumheller Committee's area. said
committee to repart to Council at next meeting. Carried.
Mr. Olson moved that Mr. 4!. Gilmour be appointed
D. R 0. for the Beveridge Lake Poll. Carried.
Mr SIchmaltz moved that this M D support the stationery
branch of the A. A. M. D. as much as deemed practical.

Lester
Secretary Treasurer read a letter from Mr Lester Gibson
Gibson
in which he offers to purchase, subject to the approval
of the Minister, NE- 29- 34 -22 -4 for ;;;1,000.00- `$500.00
cash and X500.00 in one year. It was moved by Mr.
Olson that the Council proceed to pass a By -Law to
provide for the sale of the said land to Mr Gibson
for $'1,000.00. terms as above. Carried.
It was moved by Mr. Olson that first reading be given
to By -Law No 21 (A By -Law to provide for the sale of
NE- 29- 34 -22 -4 to Lester Gibson for X1,000.00) Carried.
Dundas
A letter from J. L. Dundas offering to purchase
Sir- 34- 31 -26 -4 for i"pl, 000.00 was read. It was moved by
Mr Schmaltz that this letter be tabled and given further
consideration on February 12th, 1945. Carried.

Secretary Treasurer reported that F K Paget, renter
of NE- 25- 29 -24 -4 and SE- 36- 29 -24 -4 has made no settle-
ment for the Municipal District's share of the 1944 crop
on the said lands Mr Ohlhauser moved that the Secret-
ary Treasurer be instructed to collect the above
rental, by seizure if necessary. Carried.
Housing
Mr Schmaltz moved that the Department of the Attorney
plan
General be informed that the Housing Proposal of the
Provincial Government will be placed before the annual
meeting of the ratepayers February 19, 1945 Carried.
The staff was instructed to prepare a brief on the
said Housing Proposal for the annual meeting.
Poffen-
A report was submitted to the Council on the steps
roth
taken to collect a Seed Grain account from Poffenroth
Bros.. the said report being given by the staff.
It was moved by Mr Ohlhauser that the staff be instructed
to proceed with this matter, and that Mr Christie be
sent to Calgary to aarry on the proceedings. Carried.
Fischer
Moved by Mr Schmaltz that Emil Fischer, poundkeeper, be
pound
instructed to dispose of hog impounded but not sold,
at the Calgary markets. Carried.
Berreth
Moved by Mr. schmaltz that whereas the report of Gottlieb
pound
Berreth, poundkeeper, shows that an animal was impounded
after being captured without the boundaries of the
Municipal District by Jacob _�jurtz, a non- relident of
the 111unicipal District, that the poundkeeper be advised
to dispose of the animal as he sees fit. Carried.
Gies-
Moved by Mr. Ohlhauser that Neil Giesbrecht be informed
brecht
that this Municipal District will grant him leave of
absence for the winter months, so that he may seek
employment elsewhere. Carried.
Assessoe
Mr. J. J. Miller of Trochu was present, and discussed with
the Council the matter of the general assessment which
is to be made in 1945.
Miller
After considerable discussion, Mr. Campbell moved that
Mr. Miller be appointed as Chief Assessor of the M. D.
to conduct the general assessment in 1945, that he be
paid $2,500.00 for his services, and that he be furnished
two assistant assessors. Carried.

It was moved by Mr. Campbell that S. F. Torrance of
Carbon, and C. J. Christie of Three Hills be appointed
as assistant assessors, and that G G King and
A. J. Purvis be appointed as alternate assistants.
Carried.
Mr J J. Miller accepted the appointment of Chief
Assessor.
It was moved by Mr. Olson that the Council do now
adjourn until February 12th, 1945 at 10.00 a.m.
Carried.
