COUNCIL MEETING HELD DECEMBER 4. 1944.

The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill No. 278
held a special meeting on Monday December 4th, 1944.
Mr. Parry, Reeve, called the meeting to order at 10.15 a.m.
Councillors present' Mr. Olson, Mr. Ohlhauser, Mr. Schmaltz
Mr. Parry (Reeve), Mr. Peterse n, Mr. Walker, Mr. Campbell.
Mr. Ohlhauser moved that general business be transacted
at this meeting of the Council. Carried unanimously.
Mr. Ohlhauser moved that the minutes of the previous
meeting be adopted with the following alterations*
(Page 7)• re* shop building
"Building to have one door, 11 ft high
"Foundation : 18 inches in ground.
"Estimated cost* 41,000 for material only." Carried.
Mr. C. J. Christie, Assistant Secretary Treasurer, sub-
mitted his report on his appraisal of the lands, and the
improvements thereon, in the 1944 Tax Sale.
Air. Campbell moved that the folloviing reserve bids be
placed on the lands in the Tax Sale*

Mr. Petersen moved that Council adjourn until 1.30 p.m
The Council re- assembled at 1.30 p.m., ell members being
present.
At 2.00 p.m. the Tax Sale was held, A. J. Purvis being
auctioneer, and C. J Christie as clerk.
The lands offered for sale, the reserve bid, and the
purchaser and selling price are given below:

Council on the matter of leasing Pt. 5E- 16- 29 -23 -4.
fiQ I fir. Ohlhauser moved that the Municipal District do lease
this land to Mr. H. R Brown for the period Dec 4, 1944
v to Dec 31, 1945 for 120.00, payable X60.00 at this date,
�+� and �i60.00 on July 1, 1945. Carried.

Mr. E. R. Petersen interviewed the Council on the matter
of turning part of the Townsite of Hesketh back into
acreage Mr Walker moved that Mr Olson and Mr.
Ohlhauser be appointed a Conrnittee to investigate this
matter, and to report on same at a later date. Carried.
Air Christie reported on the affairs of Mrs. Kate Muir,
an indigent responsibility of this Municipal District
11r. Walker moved that pars. Huir's relief allowance be
increased to 130.00 per month. Carried.
Mr. Alfred Stewart interviewed the Council on the matter
of the purchase of Pt. NE- 7- 29 -21 -4. He offered to
pay 4400.00 cash for this property. Mr. Olson moved
that the Council do now proceed to pass a By -Law to
provide for the sale of Pt. NE- 7- 29 -21 -4 to Alfred
Stewart for t400.00 cash. Carried. First and second
readings were given to this By -Law (By -Law No. 16.)
I,ir. Olson moved that t;wo horses now impounded in
Vickers' pound be disposed of, as no bids were received
when they were offered for sale. (Sec. 48 (3) The
Domestic Animals Act) Carried.
Mr. Ohlhauser moved that the laborers on the Carbon
machine shop job be paid 65� per hour. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that Oscar Keirle be appointed
Poundkeeper, to maintain a pound at 5d- 17- 30 -25 -4;
that F. P. Braconnier be appointed Poundkeeper, to
maintain a pound at 5;- 29 -31- 3 -4 Carried,
Mr. G. G. King, Asst. Sec. Treas., presented the
Public Works statement, a nd Mr. Olson moved that the
statement be adopted. Carried
Mr. 4alker moved that the Council proceed to pass a
By -Law to provide for the sale of Lot 21, Block 2,
Hamlet of Huxley to Thos. Robinson for �10 00 cash.
Carried. First and second readings were given to the
By -Law (By -Law No. 17).
Mr. Walker moved that the Council do now proceed to
pass a By - Law to provide for the addition of a penalty
of 5% to be added to the taxes in arrears on April 1st,
1945. Carried. First reading was given to this By -Law
(By -Law No. 18)

Mr. Olson moved that the application be approved,
and recommendation made to the Old Age Pensions Dept.
that maximum pension be granted. Carried,
Mr. Campbell moved that surveys be made for road
diversions at the following locations'
NW- 25- 34 -24 -4 and SE- 26- 34 -24 -4 Carried
Mr. Petersen moved that a claim be made to monies owing
by the Dept of Public Works to William 'i1alls for gravel
taken from 5E- 32- 33 -22 -4, the said money to be applied on
taxes on said land Carried. /

Secretary read a letter from Hon. 'qr . 1 Cross, 141inister
of Health, re proposed Hospital District. Mr. Parry
moved that the said letter be acknowledged, and copies
of same mailed to the Trochu Hospital Committee. Carried.
Mrs. Goodsell and P.irs Hurry, representing the Trochu
Hospital Aid Society, interviewed the Council on the
matter of a donation to the said Society Mr. Petersen
moved that the Council do now proceed to pass a By -Law
to provide for a donation of 4100.00 to the said
society. Carried. First and second readings of the
By -Law were given (By -Law No. -19).
Mr. Walker moved that an amended statement of account
for the sum of X135.00 be rendered to the Canadian Nation-
al Railways for work done by the grading crews of the
Municipal District on the road leading to the elevators
in the Village of Trochu. Carried.
Mr. Walker moved that the remuneration for Councillors
for Com A ttee work in 1944 be 5.00 per day, and 10y
per mile for use of car. Carried.
Mr. Schmaltz moved that the pay - sheets (as presented)
be paid. Carried
Mir Parry moved that Mr. John Sept be advised to take
action in the courts against Leopold Zeh for non-
payment of a cheque given in payment of claim for
damages of livestock running at large. Carried
The Council adjourned at 6.20 p m. the next meeting
to be held on Dec 11th, 1944 at 10 00 a m.
