The Council of the Municipal District of Kneehill No 278
met on Monday June 5th, 1944, at 10 00 a m
The meeting was called to order by the Reeve, who presided
at the meeting. Councillors present. J. !11. Olson,
J A. Ohlhauser, Matthew Schmaltz, Hugh Parry (Reeve),
F C Petersen, George R Walker and C C Campbell.
41 It was moved by J W Olson that the minutes of the
previous meeting (on May 8th, 1944) be approved. Carried.
Weed It was moved by J. A Ohlhauser that VIeed Inspectors be
inspecto paid $6 00 per day and 10� p�,r mile for use of car

Insurance) It was moved by J. A. Ohlhauser that the tractors of the
Municipal District be insured for fire.

Wages I Tt was moved by C C Campbell that the wages of the

Blind It was moved by Matthew Schmaltz that a grant of $150 00
be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind,
and that the Council proceed to pass a By -Law to provide
for the said grant. Carried.

It was moved by Matthew Schmaltz that C. C. Campbell
be appointed a Committee of one to investigate the
C, W Fleming hospital case. Carried.
It was moved by F. C. Petersen that the Council do now
proceed to pasK a By -Law to provide for the sale of
NE- 13- 32. -22 -4 to Stephen Benusic for $250.00 Carried.
It was moved by Matthew Schmaltz that letter be sent to
the Provincial Training School stating that the conditions
prevailing in the family of F J Martens have been
investigated by a representative of the Child Welfnre
Department, and that he has recommended that the child
Kate be placed in the Provincial Training School
for treatment. Carried.
It was moved by L{atthew Schmaltz that the Alberta Farmers'
Union (Carbon Local) be informed that the organization
of Hospital District is not a function of the Council
of a Municipal District, and that the resolution which
h -s been sent to this Municipal District should be
addressed to the Three hills Board of Trade. Carried.
It was moved by J. A. Ohlhauser that recommendation be
made to the Mothers' Allowance Department that an allowance
of $25 00 per month for Mrs Tena Little be continued.

It was moved by George R Walker that recommendation be
made to the Mothers' Allowance Department that an allowance
of $30.00 per month for Mrs. Kate Schleppe be continued
Carried.
Mrs Ida. Jennings was present, and lodged a complaint
to the effect that the tenant of Wz- 34- 29 -24 -4 in 1943,
viz., Dennis Fyten, of Swalwell, Alta. neglected to
control weeds on the said land, and that as a result
of such neglect, the 1944 crop is late, and may be to
be plowed down It was moved by George R Welker that
this matter be drawn to the attention of Dennis Fyten

Mr. Cruikshank, representing Richardson Road Machinery
Co. was present, and interviewed the Council
It was moved by C C Campbell that the Municipal District
purchase from the Richardson Road Machinery Co. a No. 77
Austin :+estern Motor Grader, (Rebuilt) for $8,000.00, on
30 days approval, and that the Council proceed to pass
a By -Law to provide for the purchase of this machine
Carried.
It was moved by J. A Ohlhauser that the approval of the
Council be given to the registration of the Vesting Order
granted by the Courts to the executors of the Mueller
estate for the foreclosure of the mortgage on the said
estate on the purchaser, Jos Rist. Carried.
W J McCoy and Son, of Didsbury, Alberta were present
and discussed with the Council the matter of hauling
and screening gravel for road building. It was moved
by Matthew "chmnitz that a contrrct for a minimum of
3,000 yards be given to this firm, at the following
rates.
Screening and loading 459E per yard
Hauling as per 1944 Prov Govt rates
Carried.
Mr Christensen, G Carlson and 11. Williams, all of
Trochu, Alberta, were present, and discussed with the
Council the matter of hauling gravel in 1944

Coyotes It was moved by Matthew Schmaltz that By -Law No. 1
(A By -Law to provide for a Bounty on coyotes) be

It was moved by Matthew Schmaltz that recommendation be
made to the Department of Municipal Affairs that 60% of
the Seed and Feed account of Fred V1 Gordon of Carbon
be accepted, and the balance of the account be cancelled.
Carried.
G R Vlalker reported on the cancellation of Old Age
Pension for Mrs Alice Fawcett of Huxley, Alberta, and
Secretary Treasurer was instructed to write to the Old
Age Pensions Dept. for an explanation of this matter.
It was moved by J. A. Ohlhauser that the Municipal District
assume the costs of exchange on incoming cheques Carried

It was moved by C C Campbell that letter be sent to
Department of Lands and Mines asking permission to use
gravel for road building from Gravel Pit on NE- 29- 33 -22 -4.
Carried.
It was reported by Matthew Schmaltz that E. H. Van Wart
of Grainger has declined the appointment as Weed Inspector,
and it was moved by Matthew Schmaltz that Peter Schmidt
of Beiseker be appointed Weed Inspector for that part of
the Municipal District formerly in the Municipal District
of Norquay No. 279. Carried.
It was moved by J. A. Ohlhauser that Council adjourn
until 7 30 p m
The Council re- convened at 7 30 p m Matthew Schmaltz
absent, all other members of Council present.
G. G. King, Assistant Secretary Treasurer, reported that
NYC- 20- 34 -22 -4 and NE- 20- 34 -24' -4 havve been finally
acquired by the Municipal District It was moved by
F C Petersen that G C. Campbell be appointed as a
Committee of one to interview E. K. Linden and endeavor
to negotiate the sale of the said lands for $1,700

Mr King reported that NW -30 and NF.- 30- 3P -21 -4 had been
finally acquired It was moved by F C Petersen that
the above lands be leased for one year to Paul Elvin for
$40.00 per year. Carried.
It was moved by George R Walker that C C Campbell
be appointed to endeavor to sell the NW- 12- 37 -22 -4
(land also acquired by the Municipal District) Carried.
It was moved by George R. Walker that a refund of X10.00
be made to the Prairie Bible Institute to compensate
for removal of fence from the Driscoll property, which
said property is leased by the Institute from the Municipal
District. Carried.
It was moved by F. C. Petersen that $100.00 petty cash
account be advanced to the Secretary Treasurer Carried
It was moved by J A Ohlhauser that the Qouncil proceed
to pass a By -Law to provide for the restraining of livestock
running at large in nny part of the Municipal District
at any and all times of the year Carried
It was moved by George R. Walker that By -Law No. 6
(A By -Law to provide for the sale of Lot 9, Block 4,
Hamflet of Huxley.) be now given third reading and
be finally pas' ed Carried
